Tidbit Thursday

By: Jessica B.

I’m going with bullets today because my ADD has been a little worse than usual this week and I cannot wait for the weekend (as always.) So let’s see what is swimming around in my brain right now.

  • Inauguration talk: It’s official. We have a new president and I am loving Michelle Obama’s style. Lemongrass with green gloves isn’t my kind of look, but she is fabulous and I can’t wait to see what she wears next
  • I’m also finding the Obama girls beyond adorable too. And wearing J.Crew? Even better. I love J.Crew too and the fact that they are sensible about where they shop makes me like them more
  • What is up with men wearing sunglasses indoors at night. Let’s pause to enjoy the Corey Hart 80s song reference. Why do guys think this is cool? Even with the half tinted shades, it can border on d-bagness if done wrong. Tip: it doesn’t make you cooler!
  • I’m having trouble losing the weight I put on over the holidays. I know it won’t fall off overnight but the fact that it’s not going away is taking a toll on my self-esteem
  • Lately my gym has been a scene of unique characters, including women with dark, unshaved armpits, lots of boob action and guys flexing in front of women working out. I shouldn’t be surprised given that I am a freak magnet
  • My buddy Megan sent me a link to a site with “fashion slips” (as in slips for clothing.) I think these are adorable and I totally want the one with ostrich feathers and rhinestones. Allows me to channel my inner Carrie Bradshaw
  • I love the Office. I will always love it, but lately, I’ve been a little disappointed. I still love Jim, Pam, Dwight and Kelly, but the writing hasn’t been that great this season and I feel a little let down. But then I see a picture like this and it gets me through :) (I love you!)
  • Ashley and Rebekah shared an article from Spike.com about “The 7 Best Butterbodies.” I could go on for hours about why this is offensive and how wrong this a**hole guy is about these women, but I don’t want to give him any more recognition than I have by mentioning the article. So I’ll just give him the middle finger and remind him to call his mom to tell her what he wants for dinner tonight
  • I don’t care what anyone says. Aretha’s bow is bad a** and being the diva she is, she should rock a hat like this. You go girl
Alrighty, well those are my bullets for Thursday. Little on the random side but that’s what’s bouncing around in my noggin right now. Feel free to also share other random tidbits of what’s on your mind too.
Big weekend plans for anyone out there? My brother and sister-in-law are coming in town for a visit, which means I have to plan a weekend full of Chicago activities. This should be interesting!

  1. Allie says:

I used to go to that gym. That locker room could be frightening.

  2. Moi says:

cute post. I agree with you a lot on your bullet point topics. The obama girls are adorable in their j.crew, the office is a little iffy this season but that picture makes it ALLLLL better.
    Love finding other “Jim” fans!

  3. Sara says:

I love Michelle’s coat and gloves…I’d wear them in a second! can’t say the same about Aretha…

  4. EP says:

I’m a huge fan of the new First family. They all looked awesome on Inauguration Day!

And Aretha’s bow hat? I think she’s the only one who could have pulled that off. Period.

  5. The Modern Gal says:

    Love the slips!

  6. Ashley D says:

I agree with you- I loved Aretha’s hat. Everyone was saying how ugly it was and that they hated it while I was thinking “Wow that’s awesome! She is such a diva!”

Also, we really do need to swap eHarmony stories. There are some major creepers out there! haha

  7. Jess says:

I agree on the J. Crew thing, but having stuff custom-made from them is probably not exactly cheap, you know?

  8. Katelin says:

aretha’s hat is ridiculous and amazing and i can’t get over it. haha.

  9. dolcechic says:

Did you see Ellen wearing Aretha’s hat? You’ll never look at it the same lol!

Sasha and Malia are the cutest. They’re so lucky to have such a wonderful family, and I love their clothes!

Sorry about your experiences at the gym…maybe you should bring a pack of razors and tell them to use one, once in a while?

  10. Sarah says:

i looooved aretha’s hat. i live near detroit so i’m tempted to go get my own.

  11. Megkathleen says:

First, those slips are too damn expensive. So disappointing because I do like them.

Second, you’re right that guy is a HUGE A-hole. Ack. So pissed.

  12. Deutlich says:

I completely understand the weight issue. :( It took me a long, long time to just be ok with who I am now.

And even still, I have weird moments.

  13. jenniferalaine says:

agreed on all fronts. especially the article. i’m not even sure i can justify it with a response. no wonder so many women have body image issues and eating disorders.

  14. Cheryl says:

I just love the new First Family. Love, love, love them.

I hate Mr. Butterbody. Yuck! I would love to see what he looks like. Something tells me he’s no Adonis.

  15. Miss Grace says:

My devoted love of Jim makes the Office good no matter what.

I love how the Obamas dress. And I love the J.Crew thing!

  16. thatShortChick says:

malia and sasha are painfully adorable. especially little miss sasha who gave her daddy the thumbs up after he gave the oath. TOO CUTE!

i LOVE that the Obamas are like the unofficial spokesfamily for J.Crew.

and i totally agree with the lackluster-ness of The Office this season. i hope the writers get it together!

  17. Kate says:

I just finished reading that butterbodies article and all I can say is, HOW RUDE! (Yes, I just channeled my inner Stephanie Tanner.)

  18. Katie cat says:

I’m kinda feeling the lemongrass (well not necessarily the lemongrass, but what it represents, which is COLOR!! :o)

Michelle is setting the stage for color this year, and I think yellow in general will be big. I just bought a yellow dress yesterday that I won’t even be able to wear for 4 months!

I’ve never been to a J. Crew – something I plan to change very soon!

  19. theeclecticconnoisseur says:

I’m with you lifeintheleftlane…not digging Aretha’s hat at all! She’s a diva, but doesn’t she have a friend who can tell her the truth? I didn’t check out the butterbodies article. Have a feeling it would’ve ruined my day.

  20. liz says:

People wear their sunglasses at night because the sun never sets on a badass.

  21. lifeintheleftlane says:

So, I went to check out that article. Man, that guy is a douche! And he really has no room to talk. As I was scrolling through the comments on his “article,” I found a link to a picture of him.

He should really think twice before he opens his mouth to talk about other people. Someone needs some Rogain and a wax!

Am I the only one who was not loving Aretha’s hat?

  22. Angela says:

    That butterbodies article is TERRIBLE!

  23. Ray says:

I think the thing that makes the Obama family so attractive how they all just look so happy and in love. The girls seem so naturally happy around their Mom and Dad and Michelle and Barack look so in love. I think it’s that loving glow. :)

  24. PoisonIvy068 says:

I also loved Michelle’s dress fpr the ball…it def. was a good look for her. And the Obama girls are adorable!! : )

  25. Maxie says:

I agree about The Office– it’s had its moments, but not nearly as good as season 2 and 3.

Can’t wait for holly to come back though! It’ll get funny again then :-)

  26. LBluca77 says:

Not loving the bow. But I am with you on The Office this season. Not the best, but of course I will never stop watching.

  27. bianca says:

    1) I'm totally in love with the ostrich feathers slip. Why is that? And why is it $300? I feel a sudden urge to bust out a bit of arts & crafts time and make one. But let's be honest, mine won't be as chic.

    2) I said the same thing about Aretha. She's such a diva and you know she was thinking "I WILL stand out." And she's right. But only she could pull it off.

  28. Melissa says:

Ah, I can completely relate with the whole not being able to lose the holiday weight thing. I kind of feel like it should be capitalized. Holiday Weight. Because it went on soo easy and now nothing seems to be taking it off. Ugh.
And, the Office? I KNOW. I’ve been a bit irritated with it since the end of the writer’s strike, and I’ve got to say, last Thursday’s episode? A little more serious than funny. NOT good for a comedy sitcom.
    Have a good weekend!

  29. Mandy says:

I love that we have a first family that seems so real and aren’t all stuffy and buttoned up like the Bushes. And I though Areatha rocked the bow hat. :-)

I am going to catch a movie, shop for a new cellphone and celebrate a friends birthday Saturday night. Have a great weekend!

  30. Pam says:

I definitely agree about The Office this season. I still love the show (and Pam and Jim), but the writing hasn’t been that great so far. Tonight’s episode really wasn’t that funny. And I feel like they built up the Pam and Jim story line so much and then haven’t even touched on it at all.

Oh and I tagged you for an award on my site. I love your blog!

  31. Wickedly Scarlett says:

I loved Michelle Obama’s outfit when she was wearing the coat, but I was not wild about the cardigan thing she had going on. With that being said, my favorite thing about her fashion sense is how comfortable she is in her clothes. Honestly, I think she could wear a paper sack and pull it off better than I could wear a Dior!

  32. Maki says:

I loved what our new 1st lady wore during the party – the white, one strap dress. I thought it was gorgeous and the girls were really cute in blue and pink, too.

  33. jlc says:

Totally laughed out loud when I read that your comment on Aretha’s bow. The diva can absolutely wear whatever she likes!! Woman’s a living legend.

And yes, the girls looked too cute in J.Crew. This family is going to spin the fashion world and I can’t wait to see what’s next either. :)

  34. Heidi Renée says:

Oh, and: I just read that butterbodies list and I am FUMING. I would be thrilled to have any of those women’s bodies. If they’re butterbodies, I’m a freaking beluga.

  35. Blaez says:

i’ve spent an emotional rollercoast with Greys Anatomy and Private Practice tonight.

This weekend will be nothing short on “save save save be bored to save s’more” cuz of vacation and all !!

sigh… emotional rollercoasters and random thoughts. gotta love the human brain.

  36. Heidi Renée says:

As long as Aretha isn’t wearing a village of small animals, I’ll let her outfit slide.

  37. Lis says:

I am in love with the slips, so cute! And I also love that the Obama girls have J. Crew on! :)

Have a fun weekend with your fam!
