Kicked off the pop culture island

By: Jessica B.
I do love celebrity gossip and entertainment news, but there are a few things I’ve been hearing a lot about lately, or I’ve been hearing about certain things for way too long.
So let the tribal council gather because I’m kicking the following things off my pop culture island.

Speidi

I cannot begin to explain how much I loathe these two. If I had a nickel for every d-bag thing Spencer said, I could pay off my student loan and I don’t like that. Between “the Hills” and “I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here,” I’m tired of hearing about both of them. Fortunately, E! is on the right track by going “Speidi-free” and now we need to rally other celebrity news outlets to stop talking about them too!!
John & Kate (and ALL the drama)
I won’t lie, I’m not a Kate Gosselin fan, but I don’t want to hear any more about them. I’ve had more than enough over the last few months (this picture as one example). And last night came the expected result: divorce. Who saw that coming??? Wha?
Yes, the kids are cute and Kate’s hair and behavior are beyond awful, but as a kid from a divorced family, this is the best thing for everyone. Kids pick up on their parents being unhappy, so I’d rather have them be apart and happier, which will ultimately be better for their kids. I hope they use the show’s network-enforced hiatus to get back on track.
Scary pregnancy shows
These shows scare the absolute sh*t out of m. For example, TLC’s “I Didn’t Know I was Pregnant” or MTV’s “16 and Pregnant.” For me, the former is way scarier than the latter but both make me want to OD on birth control. In fact, I can’t even really explain why these scare me because I’ll start shuddering in a ball on the floor. I think the titles say it all
Melissa Rycroft
Getting dumped on national, live television is awful. I can only imagine how humiliating it was, especially after the man who dumped you, hooks up with another woman moments after you leave. That is awful, but you’ve done “Dancing with the Stars” and now you’re on GMA and I think it’s time life goes on. I’m tired of hearing how you got your “revenge.”
Lindsay Lohan
I don’t know what to say, she’s a trainwreck. An absolute trainwreck. But I’m holding out for Britney shaving her head again so I am kicking you off the island. Oh and start wearing pants, leggings are not attractive on bony legs. And get your sh*t together girl, seriously.
Jennifer Aniston/Brad Pitt/Angelina Jolie
Similar to my open letter to Jenn awhile back, why are we still talking about this??? Please, please stop and let them each go on being equally hot.
None of these things would ever be part of my desert island game. Ick.
Who would you like to vote off your pop culture island?

I pretty much agree with you. I will say those pregnancy shows are amusing and somewhat scary for me, but even scarier for my boy, who always happens to call while I'm watching one. Yeah. He'd be happy to see them gone for sure, even if they cause endless amusement and conversation starters for me.

  2. I am in COMPLETE agreement here.

  3. RebeccaC says:

Where did you find the weird semi-porn like pic of LiHo?

  4. Kate says:

The Gosselins, for sure. I've attempted to ban them from all parts of my life, but they keep sneaking in at the grocery store register.

Also, American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance. Don't care, don't care, DON'T CARE.

And not that I hear about her a lot, but I would like Danielle from Real Housewives of New Jersey to fall off the face of the planet. She reminds me of a scorned middle schooler trapped in an adult body and it bugs.

  5. I could not agree more! You are entirely write about everything you've said…

Well, except I'm strangely curious about this Jon and Kate drama because I've watched the show for years. But, it is getting to be WAY too much. I, however, saw divorce coming miles away.

  6. Jenn says:

love this – i totally agree with you. also, have you heard the spencer pratt diss rap that just came out? freaking gold – you will love it!

I too enjoyed reading about celebs, but now it's just so GAAAH. I'm sick and tired of hearing the feud between Aniston, Pitt, and Jolie! wtf? When will this end, and when will Jenn finally be happy?!

John and Kate are also starting to annoy me. I don't watch their show (OK, maybe I've seen a few), but she's mean, and he's just tired of dealing with her behavior.

  8. Hmmm…who to kick off the island? Very interesting question.

I would like to nominate any and all celebrity judges…Mary from So You Think You Can Dance, Simon from American Idol, Pierce from America's Got Talent…the whole lot of them. Be gone! I am tired of that entire scene already.

Oh, and I completely agree about Spiedi. May the rest of the media contingent follow E!'s lead. :)

In other news, will you be still be joining us next Thursday with a video for Chick Chat? Shoot me an e-mail if you could and let me know: 3bay.b.chicks@gmail.com.

  9. I totally agree with your list. I'd totally throw in Paris Hilton too and all of her man drama. Who really cares?!?

  10. nory says:

I agree 100% with all of these cast offs.

I think that perhaps the tabloids could and should leave Patrick Swayze alone. They don't need to circulate rumors about his illness. That just pisses me off. So not so much voting him off as voting off the reporters who are shady and report on people's illnesses. Is that allowed?

  11. Angela says:

I'm definitely happy they're getting a divorce. They should never have gotten married in the first place.

  12. Great list! And ew, that picture of Lindsay Lohan is tragic. I miss the Lindsay of Parent Trap and Mean Girls days…

  13. Katelin says:

i am totally with you on all of those. thank freakin goodness. i am so glad E! is officially speidi free too, that just makes me happy to hear.

  14. Ali says:

Good picks, I agree with all of them – Jon and Kate especially. I just watched the episode from this past Monday and went to bed angry and depressed. We don't need that from TV now do we?

The only other person I'd add here is Perez Hilton. He bugs the crap out of me.

  15. completely agree with your list.

I would add Ryan Seacrest and all of the Kardashians to the list.

  16. Maxie says:

I agree with you except for LiLo. I effin love her.

  17. Now I agree, kick that Spencer off the face of the earth!! But Heidi – I love her. She is so well spoken and pretty. The only thing irritating about her is how she doesn't speaking out when she is standing next to that douche of a husband.

  18. Cheryl says:

I agree with you on all of this. Which is why I enjoy the Soup so much, because these are their favorite subjects…

  19. liferehab says:

Ryan Seacrest. I'm not sure why I hate him so much but I really do. I refuse to even listen to my fave radio station when he's on the air. He makes me wants to kill someone.

  20. I definitely agree on Speidi and Lindsay Lohan. Others, except for Lady Gaga, I'm not really sure. I don't read many magazines anymore so I guess I manage to stay relatively pop culture free.

  21. Selma says:

So agree to all you said. I can't stand Speidi either. Just so ridiculous and stupid!!!!

  22. Heidi Renée says:

Heidi Montag's wedding dress was seriously fugly. I am ashamed to have the same name as her.

  23. LBluca77 says:

i feel bad for the Jon and Kate kids but the way Kate is I am not really shocked by the news. But really US Weekly do they need to be on the cover every week for a month. Please stop. It's sad but the story was interesting for about 2 weeks.

Lindsay does need to get it together. It's mean of me but I cut out that picture of Brittany with her shaved head and attacking a car with an umbrella and put it on my fridge. Only though as a reminder to never become a crazy person.

  24. Mandy says:

Speidi? I cannot stand them. They just need to move to idaho and become farmers or something.

  25. wekeepsaying says:

i agree with everything on here except brad and angelina, only because i've been hearing really good things lately about what angelina's doing with refugees and whatnot. of course, i'm just a sucker for goodwill.

i've never been on the pop-culture bandwagon, so i can't really voice any more of an opinion on here, but i am so sick of hearing about "speidi" and jon and kate. disgusting.

  26. Pam says:

Ugh. Speidi. Disgusting. They aren't real people anymore. The lines between their characters on The Hills and their real lives have blurred so much, it's like they're just acting ALL the time. They are "famous" for absolutely no reason.

I couldn't agree more about Melissa Rycroft. I can't stand her! I couldn't stand her and her baby voice and her chipmunk smile on The Bachelor. I like how she was so "crushed" about Jason, but then got right back together with her old boyfriend. Interesting…I just don't see what people see in her. She's annoying.

Though he's already off the island, I'd like to make sure Rod Blagojevich doesn't weasel his way back on. EVER. He's gross.

  27. kendrasue says:

I despise Speidi and have since I first heard about them. I never watched The Hills but listening/reading about them just annoys me. And the show I didn't know I was pregnant. Creeps me out but if I see it's on I can't not watch it. And then I get super creeped out.

  28. Christina says:

Ha! Love your list and I completely agree. I really use to enjoy reading about celebs, but it has gotten way out of hand. I thought its was just me who felt that way about all of the above!

  29. Marie says:

Thanks for adding J&K; to this list. It is incredibly tragic that these two used their separation/divorce as an "announcement" get ratings for a TV show. How horrible for their children.

  30. e says:

E! News has decided to no longer talk about Spencer and Heidi…..now if only every other media outlet EVER could do this too…

  31. I agree with all of your selections and nominate John Mayer for consideration. The only caveat is that he may remain but only while singing. No texting, twittering, holding press conferences about breakups or talking about ex girlfriends.

As annoying as Kate Gosselin and as much as their hunger for fame has cost them I do feel bad for her, for them but most of all for the kids. I think they went into the show with the best intentions and it spiraled out of control.

  32. Spedi would def. be getting the boot!

  33. Maggie says:

I agree with all of the above except the pregnancy shows, we all know they're my guilty pleasure.

Even if they do give me nightmares…
