I’ve been a bit “off” lately, which I’m blaming on the change in seasons. Yeah right now, the change in seasons is my scapegoat for everything.
For example, last night I meant to upload photos from my camera but didn’t because I was distracted by downloading Glee episodes on iTunes. I blame the change in seasons for that musical distraction.
But along with blaming the seasons for my absentmindedness, it has also caused some dormant “old lady” habits to surface too.
I started thinking about this after I saw a picture of my 14 year old goddaughter/cousin on Facebook going to her freshman year homecoming. She looked so beautiful and I choked up because I remember holding her as a baby and holding her hand as she learned to walk. And then I looked a picture of her full dress and said, “hmm that hem could be a little longer, below the knee Grace!”
Yes, that’s how sweet I am.
Now on to the other “old lady” habits I’ve adopted lately:
- Unable to stay awake past 10 p.m. on weeknights (and wanting to sleep until 10 a.m. the next morning)
- Commenting that high school girls’ senior photos look a little sluttier every year (my cousins showed me their yearbook)
- Inability to understand “kids” lingo. For example, a younger coworker said the word “baller” in a sentence to me and I have to think about what that meant
- Dislike of loud TVs or parties when I’m trying to go to sleep
- The attraction and longing for napping
- Exponential increase in bounce back time needed from drinking
Yeah, I need to get out more and be more reckless. Or I need to move to California where it’s sunny, warm and heavenly all the time. Or maybe it’s time for me to find a cul-de-sac in Florida where I can rest my back and swim by the pool. Sounds nice.
Have you noticed any “old lady” habits lately or a change in your moods because of the seasons? Or what would you like the blame the change in seasons for? Feel free to share, it’s not your fault!
I’ve always been an old soul. And honestly, kids these days? Completely different than we were when we were their age.
You can come down to FL and act old lady-ish with me, I go to bed at 10 too. :)
I 24 and have these moments. I know what lol is, and ttyl, blah blah blah. But while visiting Penn State this past weekend, some girl used one I’ve never seen in my life – I can’t even remember it – and I had to ask her what it meant. She’s only three years younger! Gah. I guess it’s part of getting old in general, huh?
I feel like an old lady since I’m around high school students all day!
And by 9pm I am exhausted! And I’m usually in bed at 10. I’m so sad at 24!
Since I’m sharing Award Day at “A Modern Day Ricky & Lucy” with you, I thought I’d stop by.
My Old Lady habit is: I seem to have developed a gap somewhere in the back of my teeth that now constantly needs attention from a toothpick after each meal. How Old Lady is that?!
I rarely can make it past 10 p.m. Also, I frequently say, “How did that 12 year old get a license?”
I’ve been sleeping ALL THE TIME. Mono maybe? Or laziness?
Also, I wanted to let you know that I selected your blog for the Over the Top award!

I’m always irritated at people who are being loud in public. Especially teenagers. But that has nothing to do with the weather. I just feel that way all the time.
i always feel like an old lady when i see kids dressing up for prom now. i mean really, why so slutty and short? it makes me sad.
I can relate to this post a little too well.
Even when I was living at college, one of my friends used to (and still does) refer to me as “grandma” because of my old-lady ways.
Ugh. My loud neighbors bring out the old lady in me every. time.
Well, sadly a lot of these habits I DO have but they aren’t related to the weather as I experience them all the darn time. I like to sleep. I can’t drink as well as I used too. Loud noises/TV during naps or sleeping are very frustrating. I’m old. I’m ok with it.
I’m right there with you with passing out on the sofa at 10 p.m. and always feeling like I need a nap. I also take a long time to bounce back from a late night out boozing. It’s sad but true…
I’m pretty sure I’ve always had the soul of an old lady, because I’ve never liked loud anything when I’m trying to go to sleep (and I’m usually not very nice about it, either!).
I feel like the old lady habits always come out in the fall. Suddenly a warm bath & lounging around the apartment in comfy clothes and warm blankets sound so much better than going out to parties and such.
Kids are for sure slutty, sleep by 10pm is sacred and naps are beautiful.
i understand… my neice dresses all slutty and takes the famous “from above” picture with her boobage hanging out all the time and posts it… she’s also suposedly engaged (she’s 17 and no ring) to this guy who lives on the other side of the continent! sigh. I’m not even completely convinced they’ve met IRL.
then again can’t say anything her mother (my brother’s wife) posts the same pictures and they’re together in alot of them (her and her daughter). i makes me ill. and her “talking” is: “hangen out at da pool wit ma bitch ass momma. hevin a grate tim! wishen my huby wuz here wit me. luvin my huby 4eva! lol i’m hiz wifey!!” and her mom will comment “lol i love u and ur hubby!” and she’ll respond back “u luv uz mre wen we have ur grindbaby! lol”
i groan daily. i can’t tell if they’re trying to be “gangsta”, if they’re just stupid redneck hicks or if they’re just plain stupid.
i’m totally with you on all of those. and i don’t think it’s in our heads – high school girls (and younger!) are all super slutty now. hello parents – pay attention to your kids!!!
First of all naps are not an old lady thing. I’ve been napping ever since childhood and I’m a big fan! :)
My old lady habit is the increasing desire to scream at kids when they talk “You are not a freaking gangsta! Nor do you even want to be. Do you even know what it means to be a gangsta!” Your ‘baller’ friend would have been one of the times when I fought the urge.
I’ve also noticed that when I read Facebook statuses of my younger cousins, I just cringe. Sometimes I fight the urge, but sometimes I don’t, to say “Hey, stop posting stupid sh*t. You know, someday you may be looking for a job and your employer might check here and they will not hire you if they see this crap.”
And then I try to remind myself that when I was in high school, or even a freshman in college that most of my friends would not have cared about those things either. I probably would have, because I was/am mature beyond my years ;-), but my friends probably wouldn’t have cared.
It sucks getting old and ‘lame’.
I want to sleep all the time. My bed is warm and cozy and the room is dark and there is a purring cat by head. I just want to stay there forever and forget about everything else.
I used to wear flip flops and no coat until there was 2 inches of snow on the ground? Now? Heck no! Where are my fake uggs? My feet are cold! And the first snow here (which obv didn’t stick) I was contemplating grabbing my winter coat. Uhhh???
haha- oh and once my umbrella was in my car and it was a down pour… I grabbed a walmart bag to cover my hair. I do believe I will be 80 years old and wearing those plastic caps hahaa. :)
How about ugly old lady sweaters? I’ve been tempted to wear them just to stay warm?
And yes on going to bed early, having a hard time getting up, ataking naps, and thinking the neighbors are too loud… I’ve just been blaiming those habits on “maturity” though.
I’m such an old lady! (kind of pathetic since I’m 21.) My christmas list consists of a sewing machine and a tea pot. My ultimate Friday night is watching a movie, sewing, cooking dinner, and being asleep by 10. I nap all the time. My brother is about to enter high school and it’s awful, he uses words I don’t understand and I do NOT want to think about what he’ll be doing with girls in a year or 2. And my sis-in-law is about to start college. I’m old. But I don’t really think it’s that bad.
While I’m not sleeping early anytime soon ( damn insomnia ), I do want to wake up late all the time! I love napping in the afternoon if I’m home. And I’m also annoyed with loud teenagers in the malls and coffee shops, especially when I’m trying to read a book..
Does it make me sound like an old lady?
Oh no I totally should increase my partying / drinking habit.
Ha! Sadly, I am pretty much an old lady all the time…year-round! I was kinda even an old lady in high school and college. So I’m just going to say it is part of my charm? lol.
I too have been blaming the change in seasons for everything I do lately, i.e. my shopping. It’s much warmer in a store than it is just walking past it.
Well to counter act the need for sleeping, you could just take some Vitamin D! ;-)
Nooooo don’t pay for Glee episodes! It’s all free on Hulu!
Also, those do not sound like old lady habits. They sound perfectly reasonable to me and I’m adopting some of them myself.
Especially the napping.
Entering a new decade will do that to ya ;-) I’m not far behind and feel much the same way. My biggest old lady habit is just a dislike of the bar in general. The smoke, the standing, even the drinking. Bah! I can only take it for so long!
