So yesterday was Halloween and I OD’ed on candy and sweets like it was my JOB. And today, my stomach still feels like a piece of hard candy. Ick.
I LOVE Halloween in Chicago. People go all out here and it’s so fun to see creative costumes and people doing everyday things, like riding the bus or buying groceries in costume too.
But when it comes to Halloween, I am more an observer than participant. In fact, I don’t regularly dress up in costume or go hunting for one because I’m honestly not THAT creative.
But, this year I had a formal Halloween party to attend by a wonderful hostess who asked us to come in costume…and when she heard I wasn’t a big costume person, she encouraged me to try. And I DID!
And when I almost hit my frustration limit costume shopping, I found her…Candy. That is the name of a sassy wig that called to me the moment I saw her. It wasn’t even her platinum, blue or black locks that called to me either, it was the cotton candy HOT PINK version that screamed my name.
I have always wanted to have hot pink hair. Yes, the inner wannabe bad a** in me wanted hot pink hair to say “f*ck you” to the man and rebel. Of course, after I found out I had to bleach my hair to fully dye it pink…well, the more responsible part of me came out and my hair stayed brown or blonde.
But for a reasonable price, I could solve my costume dilemma and have something I always wanted. Hello! Killing two birds with one stone.
Throw in some cheap studded cuffs and I’m ready to rock and f*cking roll!! Wahhhhh!!!
Despite having to adjust the punk outfit a little bit due to freezing temps in Chicago, I made it work. And I think Tim Gunn would be very proud.
So here’s me in a pseudo 80s punk rock look. I think the pink hair works on me.
(Also, this was taken at 1 a.m. so quality did suffer)
And unbeknownst to me, homeless men loved my costume too. Three of them commented on the hair while I was downtown. Pink hair = men magnet. YES!
What was your Halloween costume this year? Or what was your favorite costume you wore as a kid? How was everyone’s weekend too? Indulge in a little candy yourself? :)
Review blog: Yes, I’ve been deliquient on this but I promise to do better. So check out why I love NARS MakeUp Primer over Smashbox’s primer.

Awesome hair, would have been something for me:D
Very cute. Reminds me of Scarlett Johansson in Lost in Translation.
Looks good. Love the wig, though it might only be a man magnet surrounding Halloween… Ha.
You rocked that pink hair! I agree with the others, wear it to work one day (or get the clip in chunk).
I am not creative in dressing up for costume parties either. I skipped the annual Halloween party this year and instead opted for a low key bonfire with some friends. It was perfect.
The pink hair ruuuuules.
Love your outfit…I too was an 80′s rockstar/grouie! :)
love the pink hair! i’ve always wanted to rock blue hair, maybe one day, haha.
I’ve always wanted hot pink hair too! You’re right – it suits you very well.
you’re such a bad ass.
I went as a disgruntled retail associate. oh wait..that wasn’t a costume.
I wish I had real Halloween plans so I could’ve dressed up as something (as what? I don’t know).
my hubby and I went as “eskimo pie”…i dressed up like an eskimo (and was WARM, my main goal :)) and he wore a t-shirt with the pi symbol on the front and 3.14 on the back. we were pleased with how easy it was!!!
LOVE the pink hair! Super cute! You were rocking that punk look! :-)
I love dressing up for Halloween. I figure you get one day a year where it’s perfectly acceptable to dress up in some kooky get up and have fun with it! This year, I didn’t have as much time & money to go as far out as I might have liked, but I think I did alright. I went as a witch – black dress with a hat, broom & cauldron. But the best part was the dark, spooky makeup. Pics on my blog, if you’re interested! :-)
Glad to hear that you had a good time with your pink hair. (I always wanted to go blue, but never did for the same reasons you didn’t. ;-) WTG!)
You totally own that pink hair. I think you should wear it randomly just for kicks.
right there with ya on the not creative thing. I was a hippy. peace love and flowers. easy enough :)
Love the wig. I think I’d wear it to work just to creep out my straight-laced bosses. hahaha.
LOVE the pink hair.
Next year, I’m totally rockin a wig :)
Awesome wig :) I was a goth rag doll this year. It was a fun costume (and comfy too :)
We skipped it! I can’t remember the last time we “did” Halloween.
You totally rocked it. I skipped the wig this year and instead went pantsless. Yeah… You heard me. NO PANTS DANCE.
I totally didn’t peg you for the dressing up type- I love this! Very good look. Maybe not office appropriate, but I think it has it’s time and place =)
You loook fantastic with pink hair! Kinda like Natalie Portman :)
for a second, I totally thought you were going as Britney. but you totally rocked the wig & the costume.
And normally I’d point out that eating candy is counterproductive, but its halloween so who cares! I hope you had fun!
You already know I didn’t dress up this year, but I think my favourite costume was Amy Winehouse. I was good this weekend and didn’t indulge in candy, hooray!
interestingly enough, I have worn a pink wig on the streets of Chicago, albiet a 9 dollar one from CVS and can attest to the fact that homeless guys love the bright hair… the only thing worse than one girl in neon hair is many girls, and there were about 10 of us sporting a rainbow of colors, we brought joy and laughter to many people that night
What a cute costume. It’s always fun to dress up and be something totally opposite of how you regularly look.
I dressed up as Sookie from True Blood.
The Britney wig! Gotta love it.
I love the pink hair. You should rock the look at work! Punk rock is fantastic =)
I went as a Go-Go Dancer again for the second time (but I skipped Halloween last year) and loved it though this year I added purple tights & a flippy wig.
Glad you had a great time!
tim gunn would be proud. he’d say you “made it work.” :)
i was audrey hepburn – easy and classy. i just can’t get into that whole slut/leotard/leggings look.
unless you were lady gaga – in which case you are amazing and i am super jealous that i am not confident enough to prance around in a leotard because i would SO want to be her!
You are rocking that wig! Totally awesome!
I went as a race car driver and my hubby was my pit crew. Photo here
love the hair! it does work. and so if it works as a men magnet wear it the next time you go to the bar :)
My Halloween costume was a bust. I should have gotten a wig like yours!
