Bah humbug! I love the holidays but I hate seeing Christmas decorations too early.
It’s November, not even Thanksgiving and Christmas decor is suddenly EVERYWHERE.
What’s up with that? When did we skip Thanksgiving and move on? IT’S TOO EARLY FOR CHRISTMAS!
I haven’t even made my list yet!
At my parent’s house, we don’t take out the Thanksgiving decor until after Halloween and Christmas decorations don’t come out until the first or second week of December.
Heck, I don’t even put up my Charlie Brown-like tree in Chicago until the first weekend in December.
But going home one night last week, I noticed that stores like Garmin and Banana Republic were working on their display windows and then BOOM the next day I see wreaths and Nutcrackers and “tis the season” wishes.
NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
How can I get excited about Thanksgiving when I’m already looking at the next holiday?
Starbucks (client) even put out the holiday cups early. I mean…seriously?
The only place/event that gets a free pass for early holiday decor is the Chicago Magnificent Mile Lights Festival, which includes thousands of lights on Michigan Avenue’s trees and a holiday parade with Santa. Yes, this happens before Thanksgiving but I give it a free pass because I love it.
So to vent my frustration properly, I’m adding early holiday decorations to the homepage’s “on notice” board. Marketers made me do it.
Again, I love holiday decorations and music, but just not prematurely.
What about you? Do you like seeing holiday decorations and commercials already?
My fat a**: Thank you everyone for being so sweet in your comments about the rude driver I encountered this weekend. I definitely agree with Megkathleen that weight is a sensitive subject for most women so guys know they hit the pressure spot with that kind of remark. And thank you for the kind comments on my a** too. We both appreciate it :)
I wholeheartedly agree. We should take it one holiday at a time. Commericals for Christmas seriously began here the day after Halloween. Are we skipping Thanksgiving this year? WTF.
I fully support putting lights up while its still warm, because I’ve frozen my ass off trying to decorate in below freezing temps, however, I don’t believe in turning them on until after Thanksgiving. I actually dont mind the decorations and such because I really love this time of year. A local resort has a winter Festival of Lights. Going to light up night is always a fun evening.
Starbucks holiday cups and holiday drinks are already here, not that I’m complaining but I love toffee in my yummy frozen coffees :p
I was thinking “What ever happened to Thanksgiving?” myself! I LOVE the holidays. They’re my favorite time of the year…but seriously people, Christmas decor should not go up until the end of November. I hope poor Thanksgiving doesn’t become obsolete!
Amen. The retail world needs to slow down a bit. All I want is a day of turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing and everything that’s bad for me, followed by sleep! Once that’s finished, I’ll accept Christmas!
i totally agree with you, i hate seeing so many christmas commercials already it’s ridiculous. i swear next year they’ll all start before halloween, it’s just nuts! i definitely don’t decorate until after thanksgiving for sure.
It drives me insane to see Christmas decorations so early. A lot of places had them out in October. It’s still 70 degrees here some days – that is way to warm for fake snow a Christmas tress to be on display. I’m OK with holiday lights. The rest has got to go!
Ah, commercialism at its finest. I wonder when corporate America is going to decide that you should give gifts at Thanksgiving, too, so they can attempt to make even more money.
Personally, I would have no problem if my tree was up all year. I have already started a Christmas music playlist on my iPod. Our tree is even up (not decorated, though, except for lights), but that’s because I had to get Christmas pics taken before Brian left. I love PERSONAL Christmas decorations that mean something to the people who put them up … not the commercial crap I’ve been seeing since before Halloween.
When I was driving out to LA, my dad and I were flipping radio stations because we both have radio ADD. OF COURSE the minute it became November 1st every state had at least TWO stations that played Christmas music. We nearly drove the car off the road.
I know it where have all the turkeys gone??!! And P.S. Santa arrived at the mall last Friday… 6 days after Halloween shouldn’t he still be making toys? WTF???!!!
I AM SO WITH YOU!!! I, too, LOVE Christmas. But why do we have to rush it??? Wait until after Thanksgiving! That’s all I’m asking for. Just wait until after you’ve gorged yourselves on turkey and stuffing and all the other yummies. The following weekend, I’m all for it. Break out the tree and the lights and the tinsel and holly. Set up the Christmas Village and start cranking the Xmas tunes. But seriously, can we just wait a couple weeks???
I have neighbors out here in the ‘burbs that not only have their outdoor lights up (Last weekend was really nice and I can’t blame ya for wanting to do it before the 17 inches of snow and ice arrives), but they are turning them on every night!!! WHY??? I just don’t get it.
I admit to being very confused as to why there were blue lights on the trees along State St before Halloween. “Oh,” I thought, “I didn’t realize the city decorated the trees for Halloween…”
Yeah, I’m totally not expecting or looking for holiday decorations for another few weeks at least.
NO holiday stuff yet until AFTER thanksgiving!!!! i can’t even deal!
Just imagine being Jewish and having no need for any of the decorations at any point in time. =) I tend to think it’s all excessive. Even the pre-Thanksgiving Christmas parades.
I agree 100%. It seems like now, after Halloween, it’s all the sudden Christmas!
I do love looking at all the Christmas stuff but I must agree, they put alot of stuff up too early…they had bits and pieces even before Halloween was over. Me and Big Man talked about this last year and came to the conclusion that Thanksgiving has become Part 1 of Christmas! :)
I love seeing the winter holiday decorations in November. But I cannot stand seeing Valentine’s Day decorations the day after Christmas, Halloween decorations in the summer, etc. I guess I tolerate the winter holiday decorations because I love how beautiful the lights are.
We are decorating our house this weekend! :) (Of course, that is partially because we have family coming next week)
here in downtown Melbourne Australia, there have been some Christmas decorations out for a long, long time. The numbers have increased a great deal in the last week or so – but we are talking decorations since June……
at least the street decorations come out at the beginning of November…..
then, about a week after Christmas – the Easter eggs are out, the hot cross buns etc. there is no time just for one season at a time……
I’m at my parents’ place in AZ right now and their neighbor already has an enormous inflatable snowman and holiday lights in the front yard and I’m like, “..the FUCK?”
in my home we set up the tree the night of thanksgiving and start decorating the next day and that weekend. i just can’t wait for my tree! lol
but it is waaaaaaaay too early for christmas! halloween hadn’t even come and stores were selling christmas. its so wrong!
NOOOOOO!!! I am so with you on this!! I feel like Christmas comes before Thanksgiving! I mean, when I see Halloween decoration in August at Hallmark, there’s definitely something wrong. I want to enjoy each day without jumping all over.
I’m so over it, I’ve even see people with their lights up, I think covert Christmas Light Removal Ops are in my future
I hate it. I hate everything about it. I hate being forced into something I don’t want to be forced into. It’s too early for Christmas. Accept it and let it go. Silly retail industry.
ahhhh! i feel the same way! driving home today after work i saw christmas lights on a few businesses, and the tv ads and it is everywhere! whyyyy do we start pushing christmas in november!
it is allowed after thanksgiving. then i am all for it!
