Back in the routine

No lie, today was tough. My body is ridiculously pissed off at me tonight for two reasons:

  1. It had to get up to an alarm and shower
  2. It didn’t get to eat junk food all day

Since I work up today, I rotated between feeling like a bear waking from hibernation and a baby getting fussy that it wasn’t being fed on its regular schedule.

Normally, I’m pretty quick and have a good memory but today, everything seemed to take longer to process, including simple math (yes, addition and subtraction, it’s tough).

Someone asked me a question and I stared at them blankly for about a minute before actually answering the question.

I also had trouble training my body to like a regimented diet of daily healthy brown-bagged lunches. I had candy-craving pains ALL DAY and then when I wouldn’t feed my stomach candy, she just wanted salty food. WTF stomach?

And lying to myself that carrots were just as good as candy or chips was a total crock. I anticipate a few more days of fussy b*tchy food cravings and then I’ll be back on track.

Even the gym was tough, which I’ll blame partially on this cold because it’s sucking away my will to live. I did 30 minutes on the elliptical and nearly fell off of it gasping for air. An elderly woman next to me made her machine her b*tch, which was ridiculously embarrassing.

But, I only had two small pieces of candy today (my stomach would NOT take no for an answer) and still made it to the gym after leaving work late. So that’s a plus for me!

Now I’m having mixed greens, walnuts, cranberries, raisins, balsamic, chicken and goat cheese salad for dinner. Let’s just hope tomorrow is better.

How about you? How was your first day back at work or the gym? Did you find it tough to get back in your daily routine?

I know whenever I get back to a regular schedule, my body won’t be happy about it. My sleep pattern was disrupted when I had to wake up at 7 (gasp!) yesterday to start getting ready for a job interview.

I also need to join a gym badly.

Good luck! Let us know how you feel after this week and if the transition is better!

I am still trying to readjust to being back on a schedule. This bitterly cold weather isnt helping. Its left me incredibly cranky and moody. And maybe a little stabby.

  3. I need to find a gym that I like and not filled muscle-heads.

but this week I’ve started really thinking about what I’m eating, like my sugar intake, white flour, etc.

It’s always tough to get back into something once you’ve taken a break. good luck!!

i’m starting the healthy me next week. i need a week to readjust to this whole work and not sleeping in thing. clearly.

  5. Tough day back, for sure – but I’m excited about the potential things that are unfolding for me early in the year – that keeps me going. Hope you and I can chat soon! Happy New Year!

My first day back was … OK. I wasn’t overwhelmed by my workload, but I hate hate HATE dealing with small talk (like people asking how my holidays were), especially when I don’t feel like talking at all. Seriously, who wants to be social at work after being off for nearly two weeks? Not this girl!

  7. Bing says:

Yesterday was super rough, today just rough. I am not ready to be back at work. I miss the holidays already.

That salad sounds AWESOME!! I might be adding that to my list of healthy things I’m going to start eating this year!

Getting back into routines it T-O-U-G-H!!! You’re over the worst part, though. Hopefully from here on out, things will get better (that is, so long as you don’t think about the fact that summer is still 6 months away!!!).

  10. I made the mistake of trying to run outside in 19 degree weather this morning. My lungs would have nothing of it. I made it all of a few minutes and had to stop.

i feel you on that one – i felt like that hibernating bear yesterday too. starbucks solved it. i also starbucks’d (is that a word?) on the way to work this morning. skinny vanilla latte is a godsend! :)

  12. cavy says:

um, that salad? WANT. EAT. NOW.

the roomie and i have been doing jillian michaels off and on, and we signed up for Cardio Core & More twice a week. here’s hoping..

Finding healthy ways to snack is so hard! I’m big into salty food, so one of my things is swapping chips out for pretzels, they’re satisfying to eat and they have almost nothing in them. And popcorn is a good one too!

I’m working on running three times a week now that we have a treadmill- so far it’s going well, but being at work is rough no matter how I cut it.

    That dinner sounds DELICIOUS.

    Healthy…

    BUT DELICIOUS.

Ugh, I went back to work yesterday too and definitely had trouble sleeping because my body was used to staying up so late! Don’t ya hate that?! Today I didn’t help matters much because I’m stick and stayed home :(

I’m hoping to get back to the gym sometime this decade too ;)

  16. LizSara says:

I’m more impressed than an impressed thing that you managed to get to the gym and do some kind of workout in it.

I’m kind of lucky because i’ve not been off work over the holidays so it doesn’t feel quite so odd to be back at work but i nearly died from lack of chocolate yesterday and had to beg some off a friend! Christmas broke my metabolism

  17. Jessica says:

Luckily, I’m still on break, so I’m enjoying my mornings in bed, but I know I’ll be in for a rude awakening come two weeks from now.

Hope it gets easier for you as the week goes on!

  18. Andhari says:

These past two days were brutal. :( I need a few days to adjust as well. I can’t stare at any fitness equipments without feeling seriously pissed. Here’s to trying! *clink*

  19. Maki says:

I think a lot of people had tough time today at work – ton of work load after the holidays.

I’ve been slacking on diet as well – I can hear my body screaming, but I’m totally igonoring it and eating like crap!

  20. Erin says:

Ugh. Today sucked. I didn’t even go for my usual Monday night run. On the plus side, I did take all the ornaments and lights off the Christmas tree so it’s now ready for the curb.

Good job on getting to the gym! The cold really does suck one’s will to live, doesn’t it?

  21. Sara says:

I thought today was brutal. The cold weather makes it worse!

  22. Maxie says:

I wish I could say that I had a hard time getting back in the routine, but I feel like I never had a break!

  23. Allison says:

I got my ass back in the gym and ate really good today. I keep reminding myself it’s all about the routine. Keep repeating it and we will both be better in no time.

  24. Today was horrible. First day back since December 22nd. I hope that the lottery ticket I purchased before I left home WINS. Like jackpot winnings. Not some small $8 non life changing amount. I want the big one.

  25. I’ve been off for 17 days … going back to work tomorrow is going to be nasty!

  26. Iva says:

sounds like a pretty good day!! even though it was rough ;) great job on sticking it out!!

Congratulations on the nom!! ;0)GOOD LUCK!!

  27. Nora says:

Yup, it was all hard. I managed to make it through the day but I was ready for a nap around 1:30 and wanted more snacks than is normal. But I denied myself the unhealthy snacks.

  28. Whoohoo! Good job!
I’ve kept up with my workouts since I’ve been in Dallas but haven’t really been watching what I’ve been eating. Not gonna lie, I’m nervous to hop on the scale again. I’m back in Chicago tomorrow so Wednesday I’m back into the routine. Hate it, but it must be done.
