Sweat it out

I’ll be honest, I can be a little prissy sometimes. I like my hair to lay properly, my mascara to be perfectly applied and I hate sweating in my work clothes in summer.

But when I go to the gym, I LOVE to sweat. I love the endorphin kick and burst of energy that makes you want to solider through your torturous workout and work twice as hard at it.

And when I started taking classes at the gym, I felt that way too, but lately I haven’t. It was time to challenge myself and mix it up again. I love yoga and Pilates but sometimes, I need to just be active and physical in my workout.

So tonight, I balled up and took my first spinning class instead of striptease.

Why? I wasn’t in the mood to dry hump a fake pole or run my hands in a caressing way over my boobs, I wanted DO something.

And that bike beat me like a stepchild.

OMG the pain. The pain in my a** and lady bits. THE PAIN.

But I survived. I pedaled on that bike for 50 minutes (allowing 10 minutes here/there to rest) and I was sweating like crazy. Sweat was running down and dripping off my face, back, arms, legs, nose and chest. I could have wrung out my gym clothes after.

And when the lightheadedness faded away and I regained the ability to stand on my own, I felt…awesome.

Sure, I couldn’t do all the stands and jumps, but I finished.

I’m still a little intimidated to go back but I might. I love a challenge and this might be it for now. Plus, that sweat felt great while it was happening.

So what about you? Do you like a really aggressive workout or something more relaxed. Or have you done spinning? Please tell me this gets easier!

I love spinning, kickboxing, elliptical bike, and the treadmill. I love anything that will make me sweat like I just jumped into the pool. I love it and the wonderful feeling after working out.

I used to be like you. I used to convince myself that if I wasn’t sweaty, I wasn’t working hard enough.

Then I found out I’m “allergic” to being hot. It’s hard to explain, but when my body gets hot and I get even a little sweaty, I break out into hives. And it sucks. So now I’m hesitant to work as hard…

  3. Nora says:

I love an aggressive workout. I push myself at least three times a week at the gym, and allow myself two other not-so-pain-inducing days. Just kind of depends. I love looking in the mirror and looking like a sweaty strawberry though I’m sure it minimizes my chances of having a cute guy come talk to me. ;-)

I’ve never done a spinning class because, well, I don’t really like the bike but I should probably give it a try! Kudos to you for trying it out. Keep us posted!

  4. Allison says:

My inner thighs were so freaking sore after my first class. I haven’t gone back but seriously need to get into it again.

P.S. I sweat like all hell and love it.

  5. Oh- exercise like that scares the crap out of me.

  6. Stephanie says:

I wish I could get up the gumption to go to the gym. But for now, I am going to try my Wii Fit! Although compared to spinning it is like comparing…well I don’t know. Something totally not comparable!!

    Love spin class…
If you really want to sweat….try a Bikram hot yoga class….90 minutes of yoga….100+ degrees and 50% humidity….you’ll sweat ant love it!

  8. Maxie says:

My sister teaches spinning so she would always talk me into doing it. UM NO IT DOESNT GET BETTER. okay, it gets better, but my parts still hurt every time.

  9. AuburnKat says:

My favorite workout is playing soccer because it doesn’t feel like a workout to me.

I also hate sweating in my work clothes!!!

  10. I like a more aggressive workout … I like donning my boxing gloves and pounding on the bag for a while.

  11. Lil' Woman says:

I would be afraid I would pedal so hard I would just fly over the handle bars.

  12. Elle says:

Ooh, you are brave. I’m petrified of what that bike chair may do to my nether regions, haha. That and my gym clearly isn’t as cool as yours since they have neither striptease or spinning. Sigh.

  13. Kate says:

I love to sweat while exercising! I sweat like a beast when I run and anytime Jillian what’s-her-face is involved. I’ve never done a spinning class before, but I’ve been thinking about it for quite a while. Might be time to bite the bullet.

  14. katelin says:

i did spinning once a week for about two months and ohmygod it kicked my ass every time. i felt like it never got easier because i didn’t do it often enough so i had to stop because i literally felt like i had been hit by a bus when i was done, haha.

now i like to sweat when i go on long walks or do the wii, those are my sweating activities, haha.

I love spin class. It’s a great workout and I’ve heard it can burn between 600-800 calories a class. So worth the pain.

  16. I’ve always wanted to try a spin class, but I’m terrified of not being able to finish the whole class! I think I might actually do it after reading this post.

  17. Cass says:

I’m impressed. I’ve only taken one spinning class and that’s because I was forced. My butt has thanked me in all kinds of ways for staying away from the bike. ;-)

I actually have issues w/sweating, trying to explain them to people never works very well. It’s a little like why I don’t like being rained on…feels like I’m melting.

And no, I’m not the witch from The Wizard of Oz.

  18. A Super Girl says:

Spinning is hard core. I don’t go unless dragged.

Which probably explains my penchant for yoga. I’m a low impact kind of girl. And the sweat from a good class is just fine for me.

  19. Erin says:

I’ve only heard good things about spinning…but I’m terrified to try it! Like Nicole Marie’s comment, I think I’m in shape and I just know I’ll take a spinning class and get pwned.

I do love to sweat when working out, though.

  20. Gah, this makes me want to take a spin class again. I used to be a die-hard. I would highly recommend a gel seat (they’re like $20) that you can bring with you—your vag and ass will thank you!

  21. Nicole Marie says:

I’ll think I’m in shape and then a spin class will make me its bitch. I’m such a pansy. I’ve heard that it does get easier though, and addicting even.

  22. jenn says:

yep – i’m like you. unless i feel myself sweat, i don’t feel like i’m doing anything.

you should get the special biking shorts for spinning class. then your lady bits & bottom won’t hurt so much :)

  23. Kyla Roma says:

I think you’re totally beyond brave for doing these! lol I can do running, but that’s where I max out- but I’m the same way, if I’m not really sweating I feel like I’m ripping myself off.

  24. Lizzie says:

I only feel like I’ve worked out properly if I sweating like a bitch! Pain is also good, but with spinning it’s a different kinda pain – it’s a burrrn, but yeah, it does get easier ;) Keep at it, well, unless your legs fall off.

  25. Nycole says:

I’ve really wanted to try spinning for the longest time, I’m chicken to take a class I don’t want to stand out as a newbie who looks like an idiot lol. I think I’ll give it a try though.

  26. Andhari says:

Spinning class = RPM, right? Man that is craaaazy. I tried twice and nothing can beat me more than that. That and Body Pump class with all the crazy weights for an hour? Whoah. But those are the classes that work most effectively though. You’ll start seeing differences in just two sessions.

  27. Maki says:

Yep, spinning class does all the trick except hurting your butt and kitties. Seriously, that’s awesome that you took that class!!! Hands down!

  28. i’ve always wanted to do a spinning class.

but i love workouts where i am pushing myself and that are hard. the ones in college were a killer for crew and a few aerobics classes i’ve gone too have been fab!

  29. Heidi says:

I LOVE spinning but yeah…it totes hurts the lady bits and a$$. No lie.
