Happy Sunday! I know the Golden Globes are on now but before I get back to putting together my fashion recap, I wanted to share a big adventure I had this weekend…to the Chicago suburbs.
Prepare yourself.
When you live in Chicago without a car, the options to get out to the suburbs are a little limited to wherever the Metra stops. And when you do go, it’s like playing tourist, just outside your city. The suburbs are…a magical place to a city girl. A strip of road can have Targets, Wal-Marts, grocery stores and restaurants lined up one after another. It’s sensory overload.
And I had the best reason to go out to the suburbs this weekend: celebrating Glee day with some of my awesome blogger friends at Erin’s house.
The Chicago city bloggers carpooled together and along the way, had our own little adventure that included:
My first trip to a Meijer grocery store. Seriously, I could spend all day there. I LOVE IT and talked about it all day. And the groceries were so reasonably priced ($1 for a two liter bottle of Pepsi) that I nearly passed out from shock.
Also, a Meijer employee helped me find something in the store and do you know what he said to me?
“Have a nice weekend miss, happy to help.”
AND it sounded sincere. WTF is up with that??? (Yes, I was nice back to him)
On our way out, we saw what has to be the smallest Stop sign I’ve ever seen. At night, I would run right through that.
And just before we arrived at Erin’s I jumped out of the (stopped) car to get a picture of this, another insanely overdecorated home for the holidays. This definitely beats the one I posted about.
The best part of the entire day? Just hanging out with friends, watching Glee, sharing our favorite lines and episodes and just catching up with one another. I love that no matter how long it’s been since I’ve seen these girls, whenever we’re together in person, it’s like we haven’t been apart at all :)
Oh and the food for this day was very exclusive to Glee fans too.
How was everyone else’s weekend? I’m off of work tomorrow and cannot wait to spend it cooking and relaxing. Is anyone else off tomorrow too? Or Glee fans, share your favorite songs or episodes!
Movie review up! TC and I went to see the Lovely Bones this weekend and I posted the review here

That is a very small stop sign. Not a regular occurance. Even in the suburbs! You were lucky to find it….I guess! =)
I totally saw that house on the way over to Erin’s! Ridiculous. I wish I had a picture of this house in the Bronx though. It is INSANE.
So nice to meet you this weekend, had so much fun! :)
Sounds like quite an adventure :)
You guys have a lot more snow than we do … and I’m okay with that.
Best field trip ever. Seriously. We need to go to the burbs more often it’s an adventure. But not really go. hahah
Meijer rocks my socks. And it’s a Michigan-based company so I love hearing people support it!
FIELD TRIP!
i love adventures like that.
the summer i spent in michigan i loooved meijer!
and after living in ireland and in the city, i have come to love being able to drive to the grocery store and i don’t complain that target is a 25 minute drive!
yay for gleee! that sounds like a fabulous way to spend the day!
yay for glee!!! sounds like it was a good time (I mean, like how could it not be right?)
Favorite episode? the one with the “single ladies” football sequence.
When we first went to look at the house we now live in, I nearly died driving along Randall Road in Algonquin. The thought of having that many stores (that I regularly shop in) in such close proximity to my home made me literally squeal with joy in the car. I might not always love suburban living, but I do enjoy passing by not one, not two, but THREE grocery stores on my way home from work.
You already know I’m jealous of the get together. But in a good way! Sounded like a lovely time and who doesn’t love Glee and good friends? Plus good food?
Sometimes people can be sincere at stores; it’s always refreshing, isn’t it? Glad you had a great time!
HAHA I had to write that on our pan of rice krispie treats because I made a second pan for my husband and his friends. I needed to make it clear that THEY CANNOT TOUCH THE SPECIAL PAN WITH EXTRA VANILLA. One day, I promise I’ll show you the pictures of when I was a childhood Meijer model. True story.
You’re funny- personally, I hate the suburbs, but that’s mostly because I lived in Naper”thrill” for a year before living here. Also, I work in the suburbs so I kinda get enough of it as it is. I did recently go to the Bed, Bath, and Beyond by my work though, and I have to say, that place had SO freaking much more than the one we have. I went ape shit in there looking at all the amazing things and wondering how to get them home on the train.
Gleeks? Oh my goodness, you guys are out of control. It’s too cute lol
I love that you took pictures of Meijer! Hilarious. And I’m glad you saw that crazy house I told you about. You should see it all lit up at night. It’s insane.
That house and the decorations look like something we’d see in the town where my husband grew up – so tacky!
My mom was in town and my niece turned 2. My weekend was an overdose of fun family time.
I love the mashup episode– or at least it has my favorite music out of all of them.
Sounds like a fun weekend!
I love that you call yourselves Gleeks! :)
I love Meijer! I shopped there until I moved away after college and I miss it so much.
That sounds seriously amazing. So jealous of the blogger Glee party. Never heard of that grocery store before. Interesting.
Haha, I just did a fashion recap!
I’ve never heard of Meijer until today. It is really cheap – and sounds like people in surburbia are a lot nicer than in the city?
I have to work tomorrow – it sucks, but my daughter is off tomorrow so that’s good for her.
Glad your weekend is going great:)
xoxo
Target and Meijer are both pretty awesome. It sort of makes me sad that you dont get to experience them on a regular basis. Your Saturday sounds like it was a lot of fun though, and reminded me that I really need to watch Glee to figure out what its all about.
#1 reason I don’t think I could live in the city sans car: Target. I seriously go there every week.
And although I technically live in the ‘burbs, I have no idea where our nearest Meijer is. Although, I, agree, they have a great grocery section! My parents literally live within walking distance of a Meijer.
Umm. I love Glee. I love the “It’s My Life/Confessions” mashup. And “Don’t Rain on My Parade.” Soooo gooood!
Sounds like a great weekend! I live in a burg like you visited. Its funny how you forget that not everyone can get to Target in 2 minutes. Because of course…Target is the motherland.
