Weekend recap: Vegas!

By: Jessica B.

Happy Monday everyone. Yes, my blog schedule is a little wonky this week because I’m having a Vegas hangover.

What is a Vegas hangover? Well, it’s when you take a day to readjust to non-Vegas life where you can’t buy a 40 oz Miller Lite or mixed drink for $20 and where you have to dress normally and not pull out your “high self-esteem” outfits that cover just your nips and lady area.

Yes, I actually indulged in a “high self-esteem” outfit, more on that later.

This weekend was the second annual Bloggers in Sin City trip to Vegas, but this year, 60+ bloggers made the trek from all over the US to go wild.

If I had to describe the weekend in two words, they would be: crazy and fun (the “and” doesn’t count toward the two words)

So let’s take this piece by piece:

This year, we stayed in the Flamingo’s new wing and it was SO NICE. Holy cow. The beds were crazy comfortable, we had a nice view and the bathroom was insane. It had a hot pink light (perfect for a night light) and a TV in the mirror. Wha? I need that at home.

I don’t consider myself a foodie but I like to go out for a nice meal (or two) and try new things. Fortunately, my awesome roommate Working Girl Two feels the same way and on our last night, we went out to graze at two really nice places: Todd English’s Olives (at the Bellagio) and Stack at the Mirage.

Here’s what we had!

Olives – Butternut Squash Tortellini with brown butter, Sage and Parmesan cheese (heaven!!) and meatlovers flatbread with Parma ham, chorizo, onions and cheese

Stack – Homemade jelly doughnut munchkin holes (I had this last year and went back specifically for this. It’s THAT good). WG2 also let me sample on her penne prosciutto, truffle and Parmesan pasta (this is also beyond incredible)

Saturday night, the group dressed in costume for a “I Just Came From a Theme Party” party and Lacey, Katelin and I went in PJs. This is a brilliant idea because we got to dress comfy and could literally crawl in to bed after. And with a little liquid courage, I wore out the skimpiest PJ outfit out, consisting of this top and boxer shorts from Old Navy. I must have been out of my mind.

I’m too modest to put a picture of the full thing up here (and I don’t want to blind you with the fat/pale skin on my legs) so here’s one to show you part of it. Thank god I was drunk and this picture turned out super cute.

Also, Katelin introduced me to the slots and with a $2 investment, I made an $8.75 profit. What can I say? I’m a high roller :)

All in all, it was a fun weekend and a rough adjustment coming back. Thank you to Nicole for organizing this and to the other bloggers for coming! It was so nice to meet so many new people and get to see some of my long-time bloggy buddies!

How was your weekend? What do you love about Vegas?

  1. E.P. says:

Seriously? When I come to Chicago, you better take me to one of your favorite restaurants. I love reading your posts — no matter where you are — and seeing what you ate. Because it all looks DELICIOUS.

I’m glad you had a fantastic time in Vegas, and I hope to see you soon!

  2. stephanie says:

What a blast! I love video poker! I feel like I am at least doing something when throwing away my money! Congrats on your $8 win!

  3. Katie K says:

I’m jealous! The hotel sounds awesome. Butternut Squash Tortellini with brown butter sounds awesome. And dressing up and getting to see everyone sounds awesome!

  4. Maki says:

This was the only time I wish I wasn’t married with kids!!!! So not fair that you guys had so much fun – Ben, lbluca, really, really???? I’m SUPER jealous!!

  5. doniree says:

So jealous of the foodie-ing! Wanna write a guest post for my food blog on those places? :) Also… as always, it was so awesome to see you!

  6. Ben says:

You clearly ate better than I did all weekend and now I’m mad about it.

  7. Mega says:

Paying for drinks in Vegas?! You can get them free anywhere, just gamble and they comp you!

  8. Ask Alice says:

So fun to meet you! I loved the PJ idea – adorable. And really, not THAT strange to be wandering around Vegas in your PJs!

  9. Maxie says:

So glad I got to see you, but I wish it had been more!

  10. I’ve never been to Vegas … it’s on my list!

Congrats on your HUGE winnings :)

  11. AshleyD says:

The TV in the bathroom mirror! The food! The costumes in the bar! It’s too much; I LOVE IT!

  12. It looks like you had a fantastic time — awesome!

Oh, and Todd English? His food is delicious… and so is he!! :)

  13. lbluca77 says:

Vegas was a blast! Lets all go back this weekend. Actually my liver would not be happy with that.

But I’m glad I got to meet you even though I think I only really saw you on Friday, but still glad we met.

  14. Kelly says:

I’m so jealous! I’ve never been to Vegas, but it looks like you had a blast!

  15. katelin says:

seriously so much fun hanging out with you this weekend and yay for pjs and slots and crepes and just fun times all around and cannot wait to see you again in august!

  16. Stephany says:

The trip sounded like so much fun that I’m contemplating going next year. And wearing PJ’s to the theme party? GENIUS!

  17. Kate says:

I’m not a huge fan of Vegas (barring our wedding ceremony that took place there), but I love love LOVE slot machines! One of the things I love most about Wisconsin is the fact that a lot of the bars have penny and nickel slots. So fun!

Glad you had a great time!

  18. Lisa says:

Partying in PJs sounds like too much fun. And girl, your skin is AMAZING. I saw the pic Lacey has with her post and got ridiculously jealous; all 3 of you look gorgeous!

  19. toywithme says:

Holy food porn lady! I just had a mouthgasm. Sounds like you had a blast. You look totally adorable in your costume btw.

  20. Aly says:

Looks like a great time! I do like the PJ idea.. I’m SO not creative enough to wear anything super ‘dress up’. Woohoo! And just think – getting home and being able to crash straight away. Awesome.

    You lucky bloggers, you.

  21. Jennifer says:

Sounds like a blast! :) Can’t wait to see more pics!

  22. Allison says:

i can’t wait to see more pictures!

  23. Sounds like a fabulous time! I’m loving the TV in the mirror idea and also love that you only had one roommate instead of trying to pile a million people into one room (an equation for insanity in my book)!

  24. nic says:

“high self-esteem” outfit… HA! Too funny! I don’t think I have many of those these days. My wardrobe seems to consist of only jeans, turtleneck sweaters, and “lazy” shirts from the Gap. So, good job you! And welcome back! You got back just in time for slap-you-in-the-face SUMMER. Holy hell it’s hot.

Also, I want those jelly doughnuts. Like, right this very second.

  25. citygal says:

Soooo jealous!!! I’ve been to Vegas twice and my favorite thing is the Bellagio brunch ;)

  26. Lil' Woman says:

    What fun!
I need to do this next year if there is one! :)

  27. Ali says:

Nice recap! Wish I could’ve spent some time with you. Oh well…next year, yes? Because we’re all going again next year. YES.

  28. Nora says:

A theme part sounds awesome! You look so cute in that picture =) We must make a summer trip/ meet-up happen!!!

  29. Daryl Callahan says:

Looks like you had a great time. I am so glad! The picture of you is adorable-how could it not be

  30. Elizabeth says:

I’m so glad it was an amazing weekend! I’ll definitely try to go again next year!

  31. Stevie says:

I loved reading your tweets all weekend! So glad you all had such an awesome time. Perhaps I’ll go next year!

Those PJs are adorable and your cleavage is rockin’! ;-) And the PJ idea is BRILLIANT. I love dressing up as much as the next gal, but going out in PJs sounds so great!

  32. Akirah says:

    I loved meeting you. :)

  33. Lollygagger says:

Glad you had fun (as if there was ever a doubt!) and you look so cute in your pjs! Can’t wait to hear more :)
