Weekend recap: My latest food loves and a baby shower

Hello everyone! Happy Sunday!

First, it’s still warm in Chicago but it’s been better the last few days Of course, now that I’ve said that, it’s getting back up to the 90s and humid this week. I may have to break down and put the AC on…I’m so cheap, I hate to do it.

There are a couple of things I want to cover from my short week and weekend, the first, is food love. Yes, I posted a little lot of food porn last week and now I have a little more.

First, are two of my favorite food loves with a little twist.

Mac and cheese is my ultimate comfort food and Friday night at Fountainhead, platonic manfriend #2 pointed out a gourmet mac and cheese on the menu: with duck confit and sundried tomatoes. I want to go there…and I did!

Yeah, this is a bad picture, but doesn’t it look tasty? It tasted great too.

Prosciutto is also my latest food love. Especially after that delicious tart I made a few weeks ago. So when Mega and I grabbed dinner at Frasca to catch up, I found a prosciutto with arugula and provolone pizza and I was in heaven. Look how much prosciutto is on there. That’s insane…and delicious.

This weekend was also my friend Cassie’s baby shower. Her family threw her a gorgeous shower on Saturday and the condo had a KILLER view of downtown. I didn’t want to look like I was casing the place but it was amazing and I had to sneak a few pictures. Check out the view of the skyline and beach!

The food was delish and there was a waiter to handle passed appetizers and drinks. It was so nice and fancy! And per usual, I did not dress appropriately. Seriously, I need to ask dress code before I go to these things.

Plus, the shower let me indulge in my love of sniffing babies’ heads. Don’t worry, the moms knew about it and didn’t seem to mind. Plus, the newborns didn’t exactly fight back :) My reign as the baby whisperer continues. WIN!

How was everyone else’s weekend? What are your favorite foods lately?

New movie review: The Kids Are All Right. And Mark Ruffalo is smoking hot.

Jealous that you guys have a beach. And the food? As usual looks delightful! I think you should/create a guide to Chicago hot spots for dining :)

You were in my hood! Fountainhead is right down the block from me. Glad you enjoyed and had a fab weekend!

Jesus – I would eat that whole pizza by myself – I heart proscuitto.

  4. Chelsa Bea says:

Mmmmm….mac n’ cheese is the ULTIMATE comfort food. Even when it’s 97 outside and humid.

  5. mandy says:

I would love some of that mac and cheese right about now.

  6. Jennifer says:

I never liked home made mac and cheese growing up, but as of lately I LOVE it!! Are you going to HLS? I want to meet you when i come to Chicago in August!!

  7. katelin says:

i would like mac and cheese and prosciutto now please. thank you.

  8. Kate says:

Mark Ruffalo IS smoking hot. Along with Timothy Olyphant, I watch movies of his I normally wouldn’t bother with just because he is in them. Yum.

Lately I have been craving more meat than usual — mostly pepperoni (uncooked) and BUBBA Burgers. Oh, and naan that I buy from a local grocery store. It’s delicious.

  9. Elizabeth says:

Mmmm…baby heads. Sweetness, and what a pretty view!

  10. My pal, Deb, had gourmet mac ‘n cheese when we got together last week. I thought she was going to lick the bowl afterwards :)

  11. Nothing is better than gourmet mac and cheese! lol

    Happy Monday!

  12. you haven’t turned your air on yet? I’m so jealous!! My husband is freaking out where we keep it as it is…though I’d love to turn it off!

My parents recently bought a condo in Chicago with a similar view–went there for the 4th and it was AWESOME!

  13. So, I’m interested to hear your overall review of Fountainhead. We live pretty close to there and were initially excited for a restaurant to open in that space. Then, I read a HORRIBLE review or two about the place. Said customer service is non existent (wouldn’t seat a twosome in a booth because those are reserved for foursomes, even though the place was empty) and the food menu is severely lacking (not enough entree options, most of which are mac and cheese). I was pretty disappointed and have not yet gone there as a result.

  14. Baby heads are an incredibly amazing smell! And now I want mac & cheese… yum…

  15. mark ruffalo has been on my hot list for ages now – LOVE HIM.

  16. Grace says:

mmmm….mac and cheese. I had great mac and cheese at a BBQ place yesterday. I could eat BBQ every day. Smelling babies heads is also awesome. They are so sweet smelling at least until they start to walk.

  17. Mel says:

I love mac and cheese and pork products. I can have bits of bacon and low end fake ice cream but in reality I am lactose intolerant and can’t really eat pork. Real ice cream and a pork chop I am out for the rest of the day.

I love food. It looks like you do too. Yay food!

  18. E.P. says:

Oh, YUM. I want a slice of that pizza right now.

And it sounds like you had a fantastic weekend! Mine wasn’t too exciting, but my mom was in town and we talked about a LOT of wedding stuff. So that’s exciting…

  19. Erin says:

That mac and cheese looks amazing!

You can come baby whisperer my girls anytime. :)

  20. April says:

OMG I love Frasca. They have this chicken noodle with goat cheese dish that I am in love with. Plus I am always lovin on their wine flights :)

We headed to Boston this weekend, it was tons of fun!

  21. i always forget that Chicago has beaches! what a gorgeous view.
