My birthday wish list

My birthday is less than two weeks away, which means it’s time to start thinking what I buy myself to celebrate my descent from the womb. Yes, I just said that.

I won’t lie, I’m dreading my birthday a little bit (right now) but I’m occupying my fearful thoughts by thinking about something I love…presents!!!!

Yes, I’ve been spending the last few days looking online, getting ideas from magazines and stocking my Amazon cart with several things I have my eye on that have to be in my apartment right away!

That’s right, I buy myself gifts because a) I’m single and b) a girl has to treat herself right!

And, as usual, I have a pretty random list of stuff I want because I can never settle on just one thing, and why not get yourself a lot of random stuff that you can use in multiple places and seasons?

Let’s take a closer look:

I am obsessed with these books and the final one comes out the day after my birthday. It’s fate

I have wanted a Roomba for a LONG time. It will be my new pet! A prelude to a dog! DJ Roomba anyone?

Now that I have all my Napa wine here, I want somewhere fancy to store it. And to help me appreciate wine more

I know AT&T sucks but OMG I want this so badly. PLEASE come to me!

Saw this on Etsy and fell in love. Time to wear my Wisconsin pride on my neck

Dutch oven (in blue to match my kitchen). I have my eye on a bacon risotto recipe that I’m dying to try with this!

A coworker has this bag and it’s gorgeous in person. The color is so bright and screams ME!

Yep, sometimes I’m all about the Benjamins. Cash is a little tacky but when I have big travel plans, this definitely helps!

So that’s what I want for my birthday. My budget definitely won’t cover everything, but a few things will be a reality!

What is the best birthday gift you’ve ever received? What is everyone doing this weekend? Anything fun?

I looked into a Roomba for a LONG time, and really wanted one. But then heard some mixed reviews…

I know it’s ideal to have a vacuum that requires no work on your part, but — and I’m going to be lame right here — if you’re looking for a long-lasting, great machine, try a Dyson. I *adore* mine. So worth the $500 I spent on it.

  2. AT&T isn’t that bad, really.

Looks like a fun list! My dad had my car deep-cleaned and detailed for my birthday. Sounds lame, but with as much time as I spend in it, it was an awesome gift.

  3. Remember me if you find any two for one sales :)

Love all the gifts…you def. have good taste. I especially love the necklace, so cute!

I love all those things — I definitely have to check out that etsy necklace — I would love an Ohio one. Also, love the color of that bag. I am more of an experience vs. material presents. For my birthday back in May, my mom bought me a ticket to see Wicked. The play was yesterday, I got to share the experience with my mom, one of her friends who has been a big part of my life, and a great friend. It was excellent.

Those all look like great birthday gifts. I’d love a wine fridge too. That is just awesome. MY best birthday gift? Don’t know….I did get super excited about an external hard drive one year!

  7. Cristina says:

A girl always has to treat herself right :P

I lusted after a Roomba for years, and now that I finally have one, I’m finding that I don’t use it very often. But that’s probably because I have a dog and it gets overwhelmed with all the dog hair.

That dutch oven looks fantastic. I love mine, I’ve used it for so many delicious meals :D

  8. a wine cooler would definitely be on my list too. and that purse, yep, i can see it being pretty :) you’re right – a girl hasta treat herself!

I am totally blanking on the best birthday present I’ve ever received. How sad is that? This year, I’m getting two babies just before my birthday, so I think that will win.

I’m Nintendo Book Clubbing it this weekend…will I see you???

  10. how about you just get it all? lol (seriously, I’m an enabler of the worst kind)

I’ve been noticing that whenever a holiday or birthday comes around, I’m only interested in taking trips. Either I want the moolah to finance the trip or the trip already planned (and paid for) and all I have to do is show up! My ‘need’ for things is rather short so I’d rather just have an experience because I’m sure I won’t forget it.

  11. katelin says:

yay birthdays! and love this list. i would vote on the wine cellar thingy because it looks awesome and is totally cool or the dutch oven or a roooomba. so fun! hope you get it all :)

  12. wishful nals says:

love the list! my birthday is next week and i can’t wait. birthdays are the best! i love that bag — so pretty! i hope that you have a wonderful birthday, lady!

  13. Julianne says:

I celebrate my birthday for a month, so I am all about treating oneself!

But on the roomba, my old roommate had one and I don’t feel like it did anything but provide entertainment. Maybe its cuz we had cats that shed too much, hardwood floors or the wrong kind, but just fyi! I’d be interested in hearing your thoughts if you get one, I love the idea of getting one.

  14. Happy almost birthday! Mine is next Friday! :)

I love that WI necklace, and I’m originally from there…might have to check that out…

Also, I SOOOOOO want an iphone, but I think I’m going to be good and wait until January when my contract is up. Can’t wait though!

  15. Nice wish list! The necklace is so cute :)

My bday present this year for my 25th- LV bag- is pretty high up there as the best bday gift ever!

  16. Rachel says:

I’m so excited for Mockingjay!! It’s totally fate that it’s coming out near your birthday.

As for my best present, I think I’m getting it this year. My birthday is in less than a month in September, and my mom is paying for me and my two best friends to spend the weekend at a cute little inn. I didn’t need more stuff (well…I could always use more stuff) but I really, really needed some QT with my besties. One lives in Miami and one lives in Boston, and I’m in DC. So we never see each other. I’m super excited. Couldn’t have asked for a better gift :)

  17. Elizabeth says:

I love, love my dutch oven–I have it in that really bright sea blue. It makes the best baked mac and cheese. Enjoy shopping!

  18. Cheryl says:

I think it’s ok to spoil yourself a little on your birthday and celebrate yourself! Good for you :)

  19. Erin says:

I’ve never heard of that book series! I’ll have to look into it…once I renew my library card.

I think it’s great that you buy yourself gifts.

As for this weekend, a friend and I are thinking about checking out the “Rockin’ on the River” Ribfest on Sunday. Have you heard anything about it?

  20. nic says:

Good list! Speaking of Roomba…you’ve likely already seen this, but it’s still delightfully funny!

  21. Nora says:

I can’t think of the best present I’ve ever received. Is that sad?

  22. Allison says:

I’m in need of a new purse myself and have a $100 Coach giftcard.

  23. I was just having a conversation with Sweets the other night regarding what to get his parents for their 40th wedding anniversary. And one of the questions I asked him is whether we should get them something material or something that is an experience. Because, me? I’m an experience kind of gal. The best presents I’ve ever gotten are memories I have celebrating myself (and others). No joke.

  24. Kyla Roma says:

I love that you’re looking at your roomba as a prelude to a dog, that made me smile! :)
My best birthday present was the road trip that Jesse & I went on this year, I definitely needed to get out of the city, and it was the perfect break :)

  25. Ginger says:

Oh, my lust for a roomba knows no bounds. WANT! Not only would I love to have something that does the vacuuming for me–I think it would be hysterical to watch the cat and the roomba interact :-)

  26. Amy says:

The new iPhone is amazing and honestly, I haven’t had any issues with service. Love it.

  27. Stevie says:

I have that Dutch Oven in bright orange (it’s the Rachael Ray right?), and I’ve have made risotto with it MANY times! If I weren’t unemployed and going back to school, I would so buy it for you! :-)

I love that Wisconsin necklace! Does it come in other states? If it does, I need one for Washington…and I wonder what Hawaii would look like?

  28. I have been wanting a Dutch oven FOREVERZ and I have one on my Amazon wishlist that I send to my family at the appropriate times each year, but no one has bought it for me! Jason is really good at getting me surprise gifts that I love. This year I came right out and told him that I wanted a VHS converter but didn’t want to spend a ton of money on it. So he stalked eBay and found me a reasonable one! (And now my blog and Facebook are overrun with old video clips. I’m kind of even annoying myself, but I can’t stop!)

  29. Grace says:

I love the necklace. I want one for California. They are so cute. I love that you get birthday gifts for yourself too. That’s awesome.

  30. My birthday is September 9 and I am planning a little weekend getaway for us! I love going on little trips and I really don’t need any STUFF, so I’m looking forward to this :)

  31. Kez says:

The best birthday present I’ve ever got is my guitar. It’s my second guitar and it’s beautiful and sounds pretty – it wasn’t just a material gift to me – it is a symbol of me getting back to doing things I love :)

Happy birthday for two week’s time!

  32. Heidi says:

i adore that etsy charm – i want it for either vermont or connecticut :) :)

(btw, is it sad that i just had to ask adam how to spell CT? I could have sworn there were double t’s in there somewhere!)

    ps miss your face :(

  33. holly says:

Oh. Em. Gee. I cannot wait for Mockingjay to be released. That series is top notch.

Love the Wisconsin etsy charm. Wonder if they make them for Kentucky…
