Loving leggings as pants

By: Jessica B.

I like traditional pants. In fact, I wear them most of the time.  But lately, my love of pants has been altered slightly because I’ve started wearing leggings as pants and I LOVE IT.

And I owe this trend all to Lindsay Lohan….and my super stylish friends. For once, something Lindsay Lohan has done that has a positive influence. Yes, I still view adding the phrase “boo you whore” to my vernacular as positive too.

Anyhow, I’ve been a very late adapter to the leggings as pants phenomenon because I’m self conscious of my legs and I don’t wear many long shirts. When you’re petite and festively plump like me, adding long shirts to a short frame doesn’t work.

But after my stepmom bought me a pair of Hue cotton leggings last year, I’ve fallen completely in love with them and now own three pairs. I’ve love wearing leggings so much that I’m purposely building up my wardrobe of long shirts. Once you go pantsless, you can’t go back.

But I’m still confused as the “rules” of what to wear with leggings as pants. For me, I can only wear them outside if I have a shirt or dress long enough to cover the curvature of my a**. And I have junk in my trunk so it has to really cover it. For me, wearing a short shirt with leggings just looks like I’m going running or biking.

And the thing I love most about leggings: that they love me back when I’m fat or thin of just am too lazy to button/zip a pair of pants.

That is real love :)

What about you? Are you in on the leggings as pants trend? Do you wear them out with shorter shirts or how long is long enough for tops to wear with them?

My new “do:” Thanks everyone for the kind words about my hair! I’m so glad you all like it. My interns even commented on the bangs today. So did a stranger in my gym class. I’m still adjusting to shorter bangs, but I can rock it :)

Leaving on a jet plane

By: Jessica B.
Here’s another thing I recommend: going on vacation!
I haven’t been on a proper vacation in…….years? And why don’t I take vacation? Two reasons: money and I’m a workaholic.
But, I did mention in a previous post about wanting to take a vacation this year and I was serious.
So tomorrow, I am getting on a jet plane with some awesome Chicago bloggers to meet up with more awesome bloggers in America’s playground, Las Vegas.
And because I hoarded so much of my vacation time this year (oops!) I am taking a full week-plus off of work to go to Vegas and then out to Boston with my dad. We’re going to get our “geek on” for New England history and hit up Fenway Park to see the Red Sox/Yankees. I’m beyond excited about going to the ballpark.
My two little mini-vacations will be good for me. I get to relax and unplug from work and just veg. And while I’m not in the best swimsuit shape, after a few drinks, I’m sure that won’t matter ;)
So while I’m gone, I have some awesome guest bloggers lined up and I’ll be back next week with a full Vegas recap before I head out to Boston. I’ll also be tweeting from my trips so if you don’t follow me, feel free to do so and live vicariously through me, I do it all the time with friends.

Oh and please forgive me for being behind on commenting, I promise to get to everyone!

Miss me!?
Does anyone else have big travel plans this summer? That’s either destination bound or staycation?

Note: Thank you everyone for your comments on the wedding note post yesterday. I won’t lie, I was a little surprised by some of the feedback, but everyone made valid points and I can see where everyone is coming from. People were very passionate and adamant about the topic, which is great, I love reading your comments on things like this.

The importance of a mani/pedi

By: Jessica B.

Whoa it’s been a while since I’ve posted one of these, but here is another thing I recommend: getting mani/pedis. Especially for the ladies.

I’m awful at regularly getting them (especially on the toesies) but I do try because I always feel better whenever I go. It’s like therapy in a non-retail sense.
And this weekend, I got my inaugural manicure of the summer season and it was like heaven. My finger nails are buffed and perfectly polished in OPI’s color – Feeling Hot-Hot-Hot. It’s a perfect hot pink. Subtle yet loud, just like me!
I used to never get manicures and pedicures because it was “too girly” but those doubts melted away the minute I got a leg/hand massage during my first visit. I was total mush because it felt so nice. The ladies had me at “cuticle.” Speaking of cuticles, I have the worst ones ever. They grow like trees and are notoriously uncomfortable to trim. But it needs to be done so rather than have me butcher them, I’ll leave it to the professionals.
My first manicure was about three years ago (yes, I know, so tragic that I waited that long), same with a pedicure too. And the pedicure reminded me how ticklish I am on my feet, especially because I nearly kicked the woman in the face. Oops. Fortunately, that only happened once…or twice. Now, to curb the need to squirm and giggle, I bite on a stick or leather strap (kidding!)
And when I’m between appointments, I do try to keep up the polish on my toes. Unfortunately, it usually comes out looking like this:
Yes, that’s polish on my foot. I have no idea how that happened.
I even bought some new colors for spring to keep at home for my own touch ups. I just hope my Cirque du Soleil bathroom moves for that “professional-looking polish” don’t turn out like the above paint job. I’m not very talented at applying my own nail polish.
But while I love the mani/pedi, if the girl nicks me or makes me bleed, that tip disappears. Only fair.
Is anyone else a big mani/pedi fan? Do you go regularly, even in winter? A few friends have said this ritual is “recession proof” but I don’t know if it’s like that for everyone else.

Happy Blog Day!

By: Jessica B.
Blog Day 2008

What is Blog Day?

BlogDay was created with the belief that bloggers should have one day dedicated to getting to know other bloggers from other countries and areas of interest. On that day Bloggers will recommend other blogs to their blog visitors. With the goal in mind, on this day every blogger will post a recommendation of 5 new blogs. This way, all blog readers will find themselves leaping around and discovering new, previously unknown blogs.
BlogDay Posting Instructions
  1. Find 5 new Blogs that you find interesting
  2. Notify the 5 bloggers that you are recommending them as part of BlogDay 2008
  3. Write a short description of the Blogs and place a link to the recommended Blogs
  4. Post the BlogDay Post (on August 31st) and
  5. Add the BlogDay tag and a link to the BlogDay Web Site

My Picks:

All Things G&D – She’s already awesome because she’s from Wisconsin and in Badger-country but she’s also great because she loves Kate Spade and understands that in Wisconsin, showing up drunk to a restaurant should not be judged.
Golightly – Meg is awesome. Her posts always make me laugh and her inner Rage Girl reminds me of my own :)
Life in the Left Lane – Recently married, works in travel PR and living in Hot-lanta. I think if she lived in Chicago, we’d be BFFs.
Places Never Planned – Cute as a button, and funny as all h*ll. Plus, she loves the Beatles white album and records, just like me! It’s the final step…in awesomeness.
Tied Together With A Smile – Another awesome Wisconsin girl who loves the Hills, football, baseball and can divide her loyalties between the Cubs and Brewers when necessary :)
Those are my inaugural Blog Day picks. It wasn’t an easy choice but I look forward to taking part again next year!
Weekend recap coming tomorrow – full of shenanigans.

The List: What I love/hate right now

By: Jessica B.
Things are pretty busy at work and getting ready for BlogHer so I’m keeping it short tonight.
I’ve already listed things that I’m grateful for so now I’m going to share with you all some things that I’m loving and hating right now that aren’t maybe as profound.

I’m loving….
  • Mario Badescu Azulene Calming Mask – My skin is super sensitive and I have rosacea and honestly this stuff calms the extra redness on my skin. Just don’t laugh while wearing it, your face is pulled tighter than a sheet.
  • Old Navy fold over skirt – Yes the fabric is non-natural but it’s great to wear in summer and it doesn’t care if you’re having a “fat” or “skinny” day.
  • Reef Sandy flip flops – I have these in about 5 colors and I wear them all the time. I even have them in black now so I can “wear” them to work.
  • Ice cream/fro yo – Now that it’s warm out, I crave this all the time. Our go-to place in our building just raised prices though so I’ll be paying for my treat, so I’ll have to space it out more.
  • Bloggy business cards – The beautiful Ang made some for me for BlogHer and they are AWESOME! I’ll post a picture of them soon, they are adorable!
  • The Closer on TNT – my parents got me watching this show and I love it. It’s only on in summer so it’s on my “must watch” section of the DVR.
  • Babies! – Yes I will be an awful mother but I sure love getting my baby fix, thanks to Yoda Amanda and the beautiful Ada. I got to visit both of them this weekend and I got lots of great pictures of the lovely Ada Q. I just need to get around to turning the flash off my camera so I don’t hypnotize her with the flash light. I seriously have 10 photos of her with the same look on her face – see below.

I’m hating…

  • Sunburn – I’ve gotten two minor ones this summer already. I need to be better about applying the SPF all over and not just on my face.
  • Humidity – Very unflattering on the hair. Plus I hate sweating already before I get to work. Ick.
  • The possible actor’s strike – I love television, please do not keep me from enjoying my favorite shows (primarily the Office) this fall.
  • Birds – I have a flock of them that hang out in the mornings near my bedroom window and the chirping is driving me crazy!!!!! They do it every weekday and even on the damn weekends! Come on!
  • Cleaning – Erin has a great idea of doing the cleaning in 15-minute intervals during the day with a set goal of what to clean each day. I am planning on adopting this method in my own apartment but for now, I hate cleaning, especially the bathroom and kitchen.

So that’s what I’m loving/hating right now. Anyone have items to add to the list?

Note to my lovely readers: Thursday I leave for San Fran and I’ll try to blog as much as possible from BlogHer so you can all see the awesome pictures and read the updates from this Everyday Adventures girl/woman. My Reader right now is pretty out of control and I’ll try to post as many comments as I can before I leave and definitely when I return. So please keep comments and I’ll return the favor ASAP. I have not forgotten!
