Who’s a pretty princess?

By: Jessica B.

My friend Katherine sent me this link today, prefacing it by saying, “you have to check this out…this will help eat time out of your day.”

Right now, that’s not really a problem at work, having too much free time, but I selected the link and smiled- it’s a “build your dream wedding dress” interactive Web site! And because weddings are a big part of my family life right now, I figured I would stop looking and drooling at Tiffany and play “paper dolls” online…with wedding dresses.

I highly recommend the ladies check this out. It’s fun and actually does kill time! I was mesmerized for about 15 minutes just on the skirt! Plus, the opportunity to build your dream dress in 3 steps, that’s easy enough or me!

So below are two pictures of dresses that I created, complete with veil and “trimmings.” Not that the reality will live up to this image, if we get there, but it’s fun to play with. The Web site is pretty smart though, you cannot do a screen shot of the Web site with the dress or copy the image, so I took out the digital camera and had to get creative. Enjoy two options below, I’ll let you debate and guess which one is the “dream” dress.

Bonding with my credit report

By: Jessica B.

Right now I’m in the middle of reading Suze Orman’s new book, “Women & Money,” which won Oprah’s endorsement and crashed her Web site server because the book was offered free online for download. That’s good enough of a recommendation for me.

I did not go the download route, primarly because my computer would start smoking from the size of the file or it would take two days to download. Anyhow, the book, much like Cathie Black’s book, was another good reading choice by my dad and a nice little present in the mail. I have no idea how he heard about it, but it’s definitely been thought provoking.

The book stressed that women should have a copy of their credit report and know their credit score. Sadly, I have been very lazy in taking care of this, even though I know a woman at work who had her identity stolen. So while I was home sick for several days about two weeks ago, I went to a Web site Suze recommended in her book and requested copies of my credit report. Yay, another step toward being a full adult! So now my credit reports are rolling it and so far so good. Of course I have to go back to buy the credit score, which was not clear when I ordered it, but baby steps. That is on the “to do” list for later this week.

Reading the reports are pretty easy, but it’s more interesting to see what’s on there, specifically bad decisions from 1999 and 2000 of opening store credit cards to save that 20 percent on shirts or pants that I don’t wear anymore. Ah memories.

Now tonight I will be going through credit report #2 to make sure there are still no surprises and closing store credit cards that were bad impulse decisions.

More tidbits!

Pet Peeve #402
Another drawback to living in an apartment in the city is restaurant flyers shoved under your door. I don’t know who does it, but please stop! Since I moved to Lakeview, my current and previous apartment in the neighborhood have been unwilling victims of the Duck Walk menu attack. The culprit strikes very infrequently, but he/she always hits my apartment at the wrong time. Case in point, when I came home at 10 p.m. from an exhausting trip to Miami this week. I open the door to find a menu innocently put under my door again and it set me off. I kicked it into the hallway and refused to pick it up in protest. I know this is childish – but I refused to waste the energy to pick it up and recycle it. Today, when Ryan and I got back from errands and I told him the Duck Walk menu story, he thought I was totally insane and promptly kicked it from the hallway into my apartment before I could stop him (see photo below).

As of 5:40 p.m. tonight, it’s still in my hallway and I have no plans to pick it up. If I pick up that menu, Duck Walk wins. I’m tempted to post a sign on my door telling whomever is putting this under my door to not waste their time, because regardless of how many they give me, I will not eat there…ever. Don’t force your cheap restaurant on me, play hard to get!

Dreaming of a Macbook
Now that my tax return is in, I’m dreaming and drooling over a new Mac laptop to replace the POS one I’m typing on now. Because I’ve used “hand me down” laptops for the last five years, I had no idea how expensive they are! Now I really need that stimulus check. Come to me!

Recommending today….
Hit the Coach store today to check out scarves for my Carryall and the new signature lip gloss. Highly recommend the Hibiscus color, super cute. And cute packaging, which is always a plus!
