Now that summer is right around the corner and I’m spending more time in the kitchen, I’m trying to mix up my dinners to try some summer-appropriate recipes that won’t make my apartment too much of a hotbox.

And because the last two weeks were crazy, I took the long Memorial Day weekend as a time to do the following: cook, relax, clean and get my closet organized. Fun!

Actually it was. And I decided to make two recipes to get me back in the kitchen and keep those cooking skills sharp.

I made pizza again (similar to this one) and it turned out really well.

Silly me took a pre-oven instead of post-oven photo. Oops.

Fact: Homemade pizza is definitely starting to become one of my favorite things to make.

Then I made my kitchen adventure for this week, which sounded incredible: Pork Tenderloin with Fresh Mango Salsa from Cooking Light. Right now, I’m loving all sorts of summer salsas and despite not being a huge mango fan, I’m willing to give it a try!

Plus, I’ve never cooked with pork, so it’s two adventures in one.

Here’s how it turned out and the recipe:

Ingredients:

2 (1-pound) pork tenderloins, trimmed

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

1 1/2 cups diced peeled mango (about 2 large)

1 teaspoon grated orange rind

3 tablespoons diagonally sliced green onions

2 teaspoons grated peeled fresh ginger

3 tablespoons fresh orange juice

1/2 teaspoon ground coriander

1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom

1 tablespoon olive oil

Preparation:

Cut each tenderloin crosswise into 8 pieces. Place plastic wrap over pork; pound to an even thickness using a meat mallet or rolling pin. Sprinkle evenly with salt and pepper. Heat oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Add half of pork; cook 3 minutes on each side or until done. Remove from pan; repeat procedure with remaining pork.

Combine mango and next 6 ingredients (mango through cardamom) in a bowl, stir and serve.

Verdict: Yummy, light and flavorful

I really liked this dish. The pork was tender and juicy and the salsa was light but had a nice citrus flavor. I excluded the cardamom and coriander because I couldn’t find it but added in red onion and parsley flakes and I still thought it tasted great. The OJ really added a lot too! I was a little bummed the pork didn’t brown as much as I hoped, but it was still tasty.

What are some of your favorite summer foods? How was your long weekend?

New movie review: Sex and the City 2. Can the girls keep the magic alive?

Yeah, I totally stole that line from Enchanted, but the meaning around it here is totally different. Although I would like “grown up girl bonding time” with Patrick Dempsy. Meow.

Anyhow, as you all know, last week was kind of a tough one. And this weekend, I did something I definitely needed more than I thought I did: girl time!

It started Friday with a lovely dinner at Marche in the West Loop with some of my favorite co-workers (even though I felt like my throat was raw meat and I was running a fever by the end of the night) where we gossiped, laughed and enjoyed really good food. Perfect way to start the weekend.

Then Saturday night came the main event with several Chicago lady bloggers (and out-of-town guests). We gathered to celebrate pretty wine labels and each other, gossiping, hugging, talking about feelings, bad wedding stories and catching up. Whether it’s having an awful boy-related week, preparing for a big week coming up job and and health wise or just talking about upcoming wedding plans, girl time solves any problem and provides all the support you need to go kick some a**!

That may be dramatic but with the right group, it’s true.

What else helps: wine shots and music. That’s right, you heard me, shots of wine, classy.

And after solving world issues and storing up on hugs, laughs and wine shots, the most epic thing ever happened: an impromptu dance party.

Oh that’s right, we danced and screamed/sang our hearts out to Bon Jovi, Glee, Gwen Stefani, The Little Mermaid (yes you heard me correctly) and the most epic of all songs to make my night: Sister Act.

I nearly died when that came on. Actually, I think there is video of us screaming/singing. Somehow, in my head when I heard us sing, it sounded TOTALLY different.

Anyhow, that party raged from 7 until 1:30 a.m. and I have to say, being around positive people who made me laugh, watched me dance (which looks like I’m having a seizure) and gave lots of hugs, gave me exactly what I needed after a tough week.

Girls night out solves every problem :) And considering last Saturday I was on my worst date ever, this was the best way to change Saturday night karma back to awesome.

Oh and we had cupcakes from a new (to me) cupcake place in Chicago, the Cupcake Counter. I will be checking that out one Friday post-work, the red velvet was tasty. You can see our spread below, yeah we went through 11 bottles of wine.

How was everyone else’s weekend? Emmy fashion recap/awards are coming tomorrow!! So far, I’m loving Neil Patrick Harris, so adorable!!

My birthday is coming up (fast) and I have no idea what I want. Dad is asking almost daily and I honestly have no idea.

He apparently didn’t like my first answer which was, “a pony.”

No, it’s not very practical for the city but they’re so PRETTY!

Normally on birthdays, I rotate between getting myself a new purse (example: Speedy last year) or jewelry and because this year marks an entrance into a new decade, I think jewelry might be the most appropriate gift.

But because I need options, I’ve listed below some awesome stuff I would love to have for my birthday, some more realistic than others.

Wii. Actually a Wii plus a Wii Fit. I really want to faux bowl or play tennis at home after a long day

Bose soundsystem. I love playing music (loudly) at home and this would definitely bring it up to an 11

Marc Jacobs. I LOVE the color. I cannot take my eyes off of it

Trip to the beach. This might have to wait until January/February but I am dreaming about it already

Anything from here. Preferrably of the sparkly earring, necklace or bracelet variety (nothing says 30 like diamonds!)

Or a funky piece of jewelry like this from David Yurman. I love the detail and multiple bangles

Nikon. I’ve been salivating over one for a long time. Might be my year to get it

Love this necklace from JCrew. Actually multiple things from JCrew would be a lovely gift

A recent trip to Dave & Buster’s brought back my love of Skeeball. Practical? No. Fun? YOU BET

Okay, okay, if the Nikon doesn’t work out, I definitely need a new point-and-shoot. Mine is not up to par anymore

What? A pony? Well…..OKAY! Who’s a pretty pony? You are!

Like I said, some are more realistic than others but, I think there is a good mix here.

If you could pick ONE THING, anything, literally anything for your birthday, what would it be? Or what have you always wanted but never received?

I love talking to people who are also online dating because the stories we share are a) hilarious b) totally true and c) shocking, usually at the same time.

I’ve been on Match now for a few months and overall it’s been a pretty good experience. While Dayton is now totally out of the picture (I don’t think that’s a real shock), JohnBoy has entered the picture and I think he’ll be staying around for a while.

But I’m shocked by the balls of some of the Match.com guys because really, some just reinforce why they’re single. Honestly.

Here are two recent examples…

Puxatawney Phil

Phil lives in the Chicago suburbs and works in finance. He also has a little bit of a short temper and lack of finesse in communicating with women.

Why do you ask? Please let me explain.

Awhile ago, Phil and I winked at each other through Match and I was waiting for a first e-mail from him, because, well he initiated that communication so that makes sense.

Anyhow, when I was sending out “no thanks” messages to some guys, Phil accidentally received one, unbeknownst to me, because of an interweb/Match glitch. So Phil e-mails me asking if that message was sent in error because, well he was hoping it was a mistake. I received this message at work and couldn’t respond right away but made the note to clarify that with him later that night.

But I got sidetracked again and forgot to do so, unfortunately, Phil didn’t forget that he had asked me earlier if this was a mistake and sent me another message (not even 24 hours after his first one) that said, and I kid you not:

“I asked you a question.”

OH SNAP. It’s on b*tch.

Having a momentary Rage Girl episode, I respond to Phil right away with the following e-mail:

“Hi Phil, actually that ‘no thanks’ message was sent in error. I did get your earlier email and I’m sorry I could placate and coddle you in a more timely manner so you could feel better about yourself because the Match wasn’t officially closed. I guess I got busy…at my job…where I work during the day. But if you can apologize, check the bitchy attitude at the door and try again, I’ll see if I’m willing to give you another chance. Otherwise that ‘no thanks’ message will be for real.”

I hate being this kind of bitchy to guys but seriously, WTF? WTF?

Having options:

Awhile ago I winked at this guy who was a little younger than I was looking for my guy to be, but was willing to give it a shot. Didn’t hear from him for about a month. Not a huge deal.

Then I come home one night and he’s emailed me the following:

“Hi I’m [insert name], the half-shirtless wonder! Your wicked gorgeous smile is a heart throbber. I would like to present you with four nice options:

We can exchange not more than 3 detailed e-mails before meeting up or…

We can exchange numbers and have 30 minutes of sparkling ear to ear conversation or…

We can go on a nice date or…

You tell me to go screw myself and stop writing you or you’re calling the cops

Options may be combined. Discuss.”

Seriously I laughed so hard out loud that I nearly had to sit down. Witty, yes, clever, yes but he lost me somewhere around the shirtless wonder and the use of the word “heart throbber.”

But I do have to say, a girl likes options.

So how would you have responded to these situations/e-mail conversations?

I’ve talked about my love of reality TV before on this blog, in fact, Alexa has written why she’s not the Bachelorette and Katelin even talked about what she’s tired of in the reality TV-world, so it got me thinking, what kind of reality show would I be on?

I like romance but honestly, taking me out on romantic dinners all the time, going on exotic trips and destination dates is not the way to completely win me over. Oh don’t get me wrong, these things are nice but there is an easier way to go about it.

Today, I decided to design my own reality dating show. Move over Daisy of Love, it’s time to list out what guys would do on my show to win my affection.

Sure, dates are nice but I need a man who can not only create romance, but also be real. The kind of guy that doesn’t turn into a toad when the show is over and has skills beyond making out and heavy petting. Although that is nice too. Wink, wink.

So here is what guys will do on this reality dating show to try and get a rose from me:

Paint my apartment – OMG a guy who could successfully help me paint my living room/dining room would be a gem

Hang pictures and my massive Pottery Barn mirror – nothing says hot like driving a nail into the wall. Hey-oh!

Reach things in high places – I’m sure watching me jump for or climb on things to reach tall items is enjoyable for them, but not for me

Not leave balled-up wet towels on the floor (gross)

Let me have control of the remote sometimes (no, I won’t torture him either by just watching Bravo or Lifetime)

Make a nice dinner (I’m a no frills girl anyhow but for coming home and seeing him cook, hot)

So that is my list of activities guys will have to do on my dating reality show to win my affection. I need a guy who can hang pictures and then take me out. Trust me, that increases your chances of heavy petting…because the pictures I have to hang are pretty heavy for me to hold up :)

What would guys have to do on your reality show to win you over?

Blog note: I’ve finally started adding reviews on the review blog here, so far I have two up and running. That blog also has a Google Reader/RSS feed as well

Reader note: Thank you everyone for your feedback on telling JohnBoy about my site. I have some thinking to do about how to handle it but your thoughts were really helpful.

Welcome to new Everyday Adventures!! Woooo!!!! That’s right, I cranked the “cool factor” on this blog all the way up to 11 and I’m not turning it down.

I’m still your hostess, Jessica, would you like a cocktail or appetizer, pigs in a blanket maybe?

When I started blogging in December 2008, I literally typed “start a free blog” into Google, and Blogger came up (shock!), but because I wasn’t sure if I would keep blogging, I stayed with the standard Blogger template because a) it was easy and b) I was lazy.

But for the last few months, I’ve been working on several BIG changes and I’m finally ready to share them with you!

Here are some of the new things on this site:

Design (duh) – I really love this design. I think it really captures me and what this blog is about. A few more changes will be coming in along the way but for now, I just can’t stop staring at how pretty it is. And if you met me this weekend at BlogHer, you already got a little preview but now you can see the entire thing! I also want to say a big thanks to Mark G. Davis who helped design and implement everything.

Dumping Blogger - Blogger was a great place to start but lately, it’s become less user friendly for me and the fact that I cannot reply to comments makes me crazy!!! So I broke up with Blogger and starting fresh on WordPress (Blogger, it’s not me, it’s you). I still have no idea how to fully use this platform either so bare with me :)

Feeds – If you subscribe to me through RSS, all you have to do is hit “refresh” in Reader for the new URL to be grabbed. Yes, there is a partial feed issue right now with RSS that I’m working to adjust. If you subscribe to me through my regular, Atom feed, you will have to update your links (sorry!) My sidebar option to update in Google Reader has been finicky so if that doesn’t work, please copy/paste the new url, http://www.myeverydayadventures.com into Reader and you’ll be all set.

I promise it takes two seconds *bats eyelashes*

Reviews – I don’t really mention products on here but I wanted to create a space where I can share things I recently have bought and love with everyone rather than figure out a way to finagle it into my main blog. So be on the watchout for cool stuff coming up on that too

So yeah, take a tour around and let me know what you think. The site’s definitely a work in progress but this place feels more like “me.” Content will still kick a** so don’t worry. Oh but be sure to use a coaster with your drink, I hate water marks on my coffee table.

Any issues with your feeds, e-mail me at: myeverydayadventures@gmail.com and I’ll keep working on them.

And come back tomorrow because I’ll have my BlogHer recap including my photo with Tim Gunn. Make it work!

This hilarious post comes from Alexa at Cleveland’s a Plum. And I have to say, ITA with her below that I could never be a reality TV star.

for many years i didn’t watch any of the seasons of the bachelor or the bachlorette because let’s be honest, it’s cliché as hell.

but for whatever reason my roommate and i really got into the last bachelor season with jason, melissa, holly and the second runner up jillian.

jillian is truthfully why we are watching this season’s bachelorette at all – we love her. the dreamy bachelor’s vying for her attention don’t hurt either (i’m looking at your ed and reid).

but after watching week after week I have decided that as much as I love the show i could never (EVER) be the bachelorette for a few specific reasons:

no one needs to make out that much with that many people. just image what would happen if there was a mono outbreak!

believe you me, i’ve been known to be quite the make out bandit in my hay day but having random lizard tongues flicking me at every turn would be a bit much

knowing that my family and friends would be watching me make out that much

the fact that at times I have to cover my eyes because i can’t watch the awkwardness of the smoochy boochy pillow talk and it’s people i don’t even know, i can’t even begin to imagine what it would be like for people that know me in real life

getting fed constant bullshit

there’s no possible way that every single one of those guys are falling in love with her, it’s bull caca. watching some of the contestants is like watching a slimy salesman selling themselves for sloppy kisses. (except for ed and reid, they can do no wrong)

“i think i’m falling in love with you”, “no i love you more”, “i never thought i could fall in love this fast”, “i don’t normally have feelings like this”

when i hear those phrases all that comes through is blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. i think there should be a drinking game associated with the bachelor and bachelorette that when any of those lines are uttered you have drink

and yet, I still watch – every. single. episode.

maybe i’m jaded, maybe i’m turning into a bitter old spinster, but i just don’t think i could be the bachelorette. that and the fact that the idea of me frolicking around a sausage fest in a bikini is something that no one deserves to see.

so what do you think – could you put yourself out there and be the bachelorette (or bachelor)? what about even just being a contestant?

So my last post was a little heavy topic-wise, I thought I would lighten it up a little today with some fun bullets!

Let’s check out what’s noodling around in my noggin.

Over the weekend, I bought a summer dress from JCrew for 10.25 percent off (no sales tax.) And I am LOVING it. Even though I’ve only worn it in my apartment because…it’s not summer outside…yet, I cannot wait for it to warm up so I can wear it. The dress is a shorter version of this one in chocolate brown

And because I’m weak, I also bought more JCrew argyle socks, which I’m am obsessed with. I have four pairs now and have my eye on two more pairs. I don’t know why I’m obsessed with it, but I feel like it allows me to indulge my inner preppy personality…and I like it!

For some reason, I have been very forgetful lately, which is unlike me. I can remember very random things about anyone. My recent incidents include: running into walls, nearly missing dentist appointments and forgetting parties I’ve RSVP’ed for. It appears as though my mind is scattered

Tomorrow starts Chicago Restaurant Week and I am so excited I could spit. For one week each year, select Chicago restaurants open their doors and serve prix fixe lunches and dinners for $22 and $32 respectively. This year I’m going to four restaurants: Prosecco, Carnivale, Le Colonial and Coco Pazzo. Expect pictures from the first two places on Sunday

Speaking of Sunday, it’s Oscar time and my work is doing a pool. Fortunately, I just got my Oscar edition of Entertainment Weekly so I’m ready to put my $2 in and vote. Keep your fingers crossed that I win!

Also, I’m f*cking TIRED of this winter weather. Today was minus zero again with the wind chill and now another winter storm is heading our way. I’ve lived in the Midwest my entire life, but suddenly, warmer, non-winter climate is lookin’ real good

I’m still puzzled by a man at the gym who was headbanging to his iPod one minute and then admiring himself in the mirror while moving his hips in Shakira-like fashion. People at my gym are weird

Oh and here is the picture of me holding the Oscar that I mentioned in Sunday’s post. I want to thank my dad, family and of course, myself. I could not have done it without you!

Does anyone else have big plans for the weekend?

Also, since the Oscars are Sunday, I will be featuring the best/worst dressed stars on Monday. Feel free to prepare yourself for the lack of mercy I will show by checking out my past SAG and Golden Globes recaps.

Reader note: Thank you to everyone for your great comments on Tuesday’s cheating post. I really appreciate everyone sharing their personal stories and thoughts on it. It was really interesting to read everyone’s opinion on it.

Also, I’ll post the winner to the BOCA Balanced Living giveaway on Sunday too!

I am a pretty forgiving person, but I am pretty cut and dry on the topic of cheating.

Cheating is something I do not tolerate. Call me unforgiving and rigid, but I have more experience with cheating than I want to, so this has shaped my opinion on the topic.

In my experience: If you’re really happy in your relationship, you don’t cheat.

When my ex-boyfriend admitted he cheated on me – to help his conscience feel better – I asked why he would do this, especially because I thought we were happy. And he said, “if I had everything I wanted, I wouldn’t have had to look elsewhere.” Yes. He was a winner.

But some of my guys friends have said, “what do you define as cheating?” And let’s look beyond the whole Road Trip movie definition of cheating, being in separate area codes, etc.

Is kissing cheating? Especially if it happens in a bar while intoxicated? You might not have knowingly done it otherwise so it shouldn’t count right?

Hmmm, that’s a tough sell. It may be misguided but “in vino veritas” has some truth to it. Usually, if I’ve had too much to drink, I may misbehave but it’s because my actions have some element of truth to them. Especially when it comes to guys.

I’m not saying you have to be a saint and never look at another man or woman again, but I almost have to agree with my ex, if you’re really happy, you don’t cheat, in any way. I also firmly believe in trust in a relationship too and cheating betrays that fundamental trust. Honestly, I don’t know if I could ever trust my boyfriend again if he cheated.

For girls, I also adhere very well to the rule of “not dating a friend’s ex.” I fear I might be one of the few that still do this too after two former friends dated two of my separate exes and told me to “get over it.” Maybe this is a bigger issue of attracting the wrong kind of people to me as friends/boyfriends.

I really enjoyed the feedback to my post about living together before marriage so I’m very curious to hear everyone’s thoughts about this topic too.

Could you forgive cheating, or have you in the past? If you did cheat, did you tell your boyfriend/girlfriend? Or would you date your friend’s ex? Is there ever a gray area in that issue?

I’m not a scardey cat, but there are a few things that scare the sh*t out of me. My friends find many of these items amusing so I figured that I’d open up the shame to everyone else!

Here are the things I’m scared of:

Mice – My stepmom and I have the same reaction when we see mice, we scream and run for high ground. Until mice start climbing stairs, I will find refuge from them on another floor

Pigeons – Especially city pigeons. I’ve said this before, but they scare the crap out of me. When they come uncomfortably close to me, I scream like a girl and hide behind the person walking next to me. Yes, I look crazy

Bees – Speaking of crazy, I also look crazy when these little bastards come around. I will do the absolute wrong thing and swat at them, squealing like a baby and running away. It’s amazing I’ve haven’t been stung more

Grates – I’m terrified of catching a heel in a grate (like JLo in Wedding Planner) or it breaking while I walk over one. I never walk over them if I can help it. When it bounces, it makes me very nervous.

Sharks – Thanks to Jaws, I’m terrified of any body of water, including a bathtub and swimming pool. Showers so far have proven to be safe

Bats – In Minnesota, I woke up one morning with a bat flying around my room. I won’t lie, I thought I would die of rabies. I wasn’t bitten by it but still, it still haunts me

Unattended dogs – I don’t care how well behaved they are, if I see a dog leashless or unattended, I panic mildly, thinking it will tear off my face. Most times dogs are very well behaved in the city, but there are a few with negligent owners who ruin this

So what I have learned from this list? I am a total sissy. S-I-S-S-Y.

What are you afraid of? I can’t be alone in some of these fears.

I’m super excited that I get to squeeze one more day out of my weekend. Of course, this is my last “holiday” until Memorial Day, so I’ll definitely make it count!

So while I’m preparing for another day off of work, here are some key learnings.

Key Learnings:

If someone asks you what you think of their mustache. Answer honestly, they did ask for your opinion

Describing a dress color as “turd-like” near a salesperson is not a good idea

Laying on the couch, watching TV and reading until noon should be a daily requirement

It’s okay to whisper, “mama loves you, come back to me” to your laptop before leaving it with the Genius Bar for minor repairs

Shopping for wine glasses can be very confusing/time consuming. They all look alike!

Popcorn + soda = good, but popcorn + soda + more popcorn + beer = tummy ache

Don’t remind your single friends that they’re “alone” on Valentine’s Day. Thanks, we got the memo

The Oscar award is heavy, but a good bicep workout

The weather really can go from 60 degrees to snow in one week. Thanks global warming!

Unfortunately, little cleaning elves that will clean your apartment while you sleep and disappear in morning do not exist. Darn.

Hearing someone say, “I like spending time with you,” is always a nice warm fuzzy moment

Suck it Valentine’s Day

I know it’s dumb, but Valentine’s Day is a buzzkill for me because it reminds me that I’m single, not that there’s anything wrong with that. And for some reason, this year, I was extra down about it. But fortunately I was off Friday and avoided watching the cavalcade of flowers come in the office. Yes, that’s never fun to watch either.

But this year, dad came to the rescue again, sending me a lovely card, saying how much he enjoys spending time with me and how proud he is of me. Yes, I teared up while reading it. It’s always nice to hear someone say that about you.

Then the real surprise came on Saturday when I was getting ready to go out and I got a call that there was a FLOWER DELIVERY for me. For me! I ran downstairs and found that dad sent me the most beautiful arrangement with pink tulips. He is the best.

Dad says he will recognize Valentine’s Day for me until I have a nice guy who will take his place. Man does not know that he will be paying out for this holiday for the rest of his life :)

You like me, you really like me!

We are one week away from the Oscars and this week I have to finalize my picks and opt into my work Oscar pool. Feeling good about the latter.

But before the big event, I was greeted by a traveling Oscar exhibit at Nordstrom on Saturday. For free, you could have your picture taken with a real Oscar replica (yes it’s heavy) and see Clark Gable’s original Oscar from 1934.

I wanted to bask in the moment of holding an Oscar replica and thank my family, but you were quickly ushered in and out, so that was short-lived, but here are some pictures from the exhibit. My Oscar photo isn’t available online yet, but I will post it soon!

Housekeeping:

Two final quick notes:

I included a badge on my sidebar for the Everyday Adventure’s blog network on Facebook. If you’re on Facebook and want to join my network, that would be awesome! Let’s network and connect

A treat from the Postal Service arrived tonight in the form of the new Nordstrom catalog, which got me thinking about fashion, and making of list of things to by for summer.

Living in the city, I see a lot of glamorous women, dressed in designer clothes or looking more put-together than me on a good day.

This can give any woman some anxiety about their looks. They say fashion should be fun and effortless, but it doesn’t always feel that way.

I guess I’ve been watching a little too much What Not to Wear lately :)

For me, I love a classic, elegant style, circa Grace Kelly or Jackie Kennedy. Their looks were refined, subtle and multifunctional. You could take one staple item and dress it up multiple ways for different looks. That’s why, for me, a classic LBD is a great investment because you’ll have it forever.

My fashion magazines say that in your 20s, you should try a lot of different styles and play with fashion. I may have started on this concept a little late, so I’m giving myself an extension still for a few years. My staples are black, gray or white, which I love to dress up with fun jewelry. Since my clothes are pretty simple, I like big expressions of color with jewelry (without being garish.)

Cocktail rings, bold necklaces or even a crazy belt can make any gray long-sleeve shirt look more than casual. I focus on this more because as my weight has fluctuated, so do the clothes that fit, so jewelry is best because it always fits, much like purses.

Oh and you can bid on John Krasinski’s tux from the SAG Awards. I wonder how much extra it would cost to have him show up wearing that. It’ll be on my floor very quickly :)

So I’m wondering today, how do you describe your personal style? And if you could only save one clothing item or accessory from a fire, what would you save?

And in case you didn’t already, enter my giveaway!

I love the color purple and bloggers, but I do not love that I’ve become a morning person.

I tried to fight it, but mornings are when I’m the most productive. I can multi-task easily, don’t get easily annoyed by things (cough in the office) and have the most energy to go out and take on the world! Of course, that means I’m ready for a nap by 3 p.m. or need to “power nap” before going out at night. But at least I don’t eat dinner at 5 p.m. so that doesn’t make me…too old…right?

And yesterday morning I was bursting with excitement for a spa night (more details to come), running downstairs to some co-workers to say, “woo, woo, it’s going to be a great day!” They thought I was crazy. In fact, by 9:30 a.m. I was at work, in my favorite JCrew cords that fit again (yay gym!), working easily through e-mail and saw yesterday’s post was on Brazen Careerist’s Web site. I was on fire! (not literally)

So what better way to celebrate a great morning than hang out with some awesome Chicago bloggers at Spa Soak in Bucktown, courtesy of BOCA? Note: BOCA is a company client.

BOCA treated us to a lovely evening of mani/pedis (which my fingernails were very excited about), chair massages, drinks and nummy food, including some amazing coconut cookies. I’ve not eaten a lot of BOCA burgers before but the few I have tried have been very tasty. I like meat, but these aren’t a bad alternative.

I even got to meet other Chicago bloggers, like April and Nilsa, for the first time too! I love meeting new people in the city. Especially when they are hilarious and fun to talk to. Oh and I have super awesome purple fingernails. They are fierce.

And another huge highlight of the evening (which caused me to spend an hour picking out the perfect outfit ahead of time), I got to meet one of my favorite bloggers, Miss Zoot. Her blog was one of the first ones I’ve ever read and I think she is hilarious. I also think her youngest son is adorable. Like too cute for words, I can’t even begin to describe the cuteness. She was at the event and I tried not to sound like a scary superfan, which was very tough.

Who’s got two purple thumbnails and feels more relaxed? This girl!

Giveaway:
I even got a nifty BOCA gift bag to giveaway to one of my readers! The gift bag includes: a yoga mat, reusable shopping tote (perfect for unexpected purchases while out), relaxing CD and day planner. The photo below isn’t the best but this is a great gift bag.

This can be anything, such as going to the gym or for a run, playing sports or taking an art/writing class. Cut-off date to enter is Wednesday, February 18. So tell your friends and tweet out the news!

Don’t want to enter the contest? That’s cool, feel free to still leave me a comment about how you pamper yourself on a daily basis. I’m a big believer in a little treat each day.
